The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a new digital reform to report voter turnout in real-time using the ECINET app. ECINET is an integrated mobile application that combines over 40 internal apps used by ECI. Presiding officers can now update voter turnout every two hours directly from polling stations using this app. The new system removes the need for manual data relay through sector or returning officers. It allows automatic and accurate aggregation of constituency-level data. It improves electoral transparency, digital governance, and public trust in the Election Commission of India.

The World Bank has approved $250 million for the Inga 3 hydropower project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), despite global civil society concerns. The Inga 3 hydropower project is located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Inga 3 is part of a larger Inga hydropower series on the Congo River at Inga Falls, known for high energy potential. Inga 1 began in 1972 and Inga 2 in 1982, while Inga 3 and Grand Inga are future expansions. The Inga 3 project is planned as a run-of-the-river system with minimal reservoir impact.

Recently, economist S Mahendra Dev has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), replacing Suman Bery. He resigned as independent director from Axis Bank after his appointment. The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) is an independent body that advises the Prime Minister on economic and related matters. Its functions include analyzing economic issues, giving macroeconomic advice, and taking up tasks assigned by the Prime Minister.

The National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) was inaugurated for the Puducherry Legislative Assembly on June 9 by the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting & Parliamentary Affairs. NeVA is a digital platform by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs (MoPA) to make legislative work paperless and efficient. It follows the ‘One Nation – One Application’ vision to connect all 37 State and Union Territory (UT) Legislatures. The platform allows Members of the Legislative Assembly to access house business, questions, and replies on their phones and tablets.

India hosted the 4th India-Central Asia Dialogue in New Delhi under the chairmanship of External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar. The meeting focused on regional security, critical minerals, connectivity, counter-terrorism, and economic integration with five Central Asian nations. The India-Central Asia Dialogue is a multilateral platform for foreign ministers to hold structured discussions. The dialogue aims to boost cooperation in trade, transport, energy, health, information technology, and regional stability.

For the first time, a tribal girl from the Kalvarayan Hills has secured admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), marking a historic achievement. The Kalvarayan Hills are located in the Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu and spread across 1,095 sq.km. These hills lie between the Kaveri River basin in the south and the Palar River basin in the north. They rise between 2,000 and 3,000 feet and stretch northeast from the Salem district. This success story highlights increasing access to higher education for tribal communities in remote regions.

A Chinese ship recently ran aground due to severe weather near Thitu Island, raising alert levels among Filipino soldiers in the disputed South China Sea. Thitu Island, also called Pag-asa Island in the Philippines, lies within the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. The Spratly Islands are claimed entirely by China, Taiwan, and Vietnam, and partially by Malaysia and the Philippines. Thitu is the second largest natural island in the Spratlys and the biggest of the nine occupied by the Philippines.

Recently, the President of India appointed Shri T. Rabi Sankar, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as a part-time member of the 16th Finance Commission (XVIFC). He will serve either till the Commission submits its report or until 31st October 2025, whichever comes earlier. His appointment follows the resignation of Shri Ajay Narayan Jha, a full-time member, due to personal reasons. The 16th Finance Commission (XVIFC) was formed on 31st December 2023.

According to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Maharashtra and Karnataka together accounted for 51% of India’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows in 2024–25. Maharashtra received the highest FDI at $19.6 billion, which is 31% of the national total. Karnataka came next with $6.62 billion in overseas investment. They were followed by Delhi ($6 billion), Gujarat ($5.71 billion), Tamil Nadu ($3.68 billion), Haryana ($3.14 billion), and Telangana ($3 billion). Total FDI inflow rose 14% to $81.04 billion in 2024–25, the highest in three years.

Notes:
Indian Railways has started building the first dedicated maintenance depot for Vande Bharat Express trains at Bhagat Ki Kothi in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This is the first of five such depots planned across India to support the country’s fastest trains. The depot will maintain Vande Bharat trains from different regions of India. It will be 600 meters long and include three pit lines to service three trains at the same time. The project is led by Jodhpur Railway Division and is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.
