The National Statistical Office (NSO) conducts the household consumer expenditure survey (HCES) every five years. It includes question on OTT subscription spend, the time spent online, how often we shop online, whether we order meals from Zomato or Swiggy, and if we own an electric vehicle.

India’s compound archer Abhishek Verma clinched a gold medal at the Archery World Cup 2023 stage 3 in Medellin, Colombia.
The 33-year-old Abhishek Verma defeated the 2019 world champion James Lutz of the USA 148-146 in the final. This is Abhishek Verma’s third individual gold medal in the Archery World Cup.

The Punjab Police (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was recently passed by the state assembly to cut out the role of the Union Public Service Commission in selecting the Director General of Police.
As per the proposed amendment bill, a committee designated by the state will be responsible for selecting a panel of three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers as potential candidates for the position of DGP. The candidate will be picked by the state government.

Goa Declaration has been adopted unanimously at the G20 Tourism Ministerial meet. This marked the success of the 4th tourism working group meeting.
Over 130 delegates from the G20 countries and the guest countries attended the G20 Tourism Ministerial meet in Goa.

Titan is a 21-foot submersible that disappeared recently. It is operated by OceanGate Expeditions, an undersea exploration company that has been making yearly voyages to the Titanic since 2021.
As per the authorities, the submersible suffered a “catastrophic implosion,” killing all five people on board while descending to explore the wreckage of the famous ship.

Vasovagal syncope is a condition characterized by a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure leading to fainting.
According to a study conducted by AIIMS, yoga has been found to enhance the quality of life for individuals with Vasovagal syncope. It is a widespread clinical condition, with an estimated lifetime prevalence of 35%.

State Bank of India Managing Director Swaminathan Janakiraman has been selected for the post of a Deputy Governor in the Reserve Bank of India.
Swaminathan Janakiraman, currently the Managing Director (MD) of the State Bank of India (SBI), will succeed Mr. Mahesh Kumar Jain, whose tenure ends on June 22, 2023.

The Lake Victoria Basin is a large geographical region in East Africa that encompasses the drainage basin of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa and the world’s second-largest freshwater lake by surface area. Lake Victoria spans the borders of Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.
A new study revealed that this region faces risks of heavy rains, wind storms, and floods that jeopardize communities’ survival, water access, and impact the region’s human populations and biodiversity.
