Gandhi Peace Prize is an annual award instituted by Government of India in 1995, on 125th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as a tribute to the ideals advocated by Mahatma Gandhi. It is open to all persons regardless of nationality, race, language, caste, creed or gender.

India’s lead badminton players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty created history by becoming the first doubles pair from the country to win the Indonesia Open title, which is currently a Super 1000 event on the BWF World Tour.
The duo defeated world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in straight-games to clinch their first Super 1000 title.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs revealed that half of the construction and demolition (C&D) waste in the country is being efficiently recycled and repurposed.
Delhi tops the country with an impressive 100% rate of recycling and reusing C&D waste. The nationwide estimate for daily C&D waste production stood at 30,000 tonnes.

British-American author Salman Rushdie has been conferred the prestigious 2023 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
It recognizes individuals who “oppose in word and deed what endangers peace, understanding and equality among nations.” The announcement was made on June 19, the day when Rushdie turned 76.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development had announced the consolidation of the existing child helpline (1098), operated by Childline, with the women’s helpline and Emergency Response Support System (112), as part of its “One Nation, One Helpline” initiative.
Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Puducherry, Goa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Mizoram, Gujarat, and Bihar are set to launch the integrated child helpline service by the end of this month, making it the first of its kind in India.

The Omicron-specific mRNA-based Booster vaccine, developed by Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd., has received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the office of the Drug Control General of India (DCGI).  This is a result of the support provided by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) under the Mission COVID Suraksha initiative.

The 91st Annual Meeting of International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD 2023) took place in Gothenburg, Sweden from 11th to 15th June, 2023.
In the meeting, India was represented by NHPC Limited which is  India’s largest hydropower development organization. The NHPC delegation presented several papers and posters on critical issues faced by hydropower developers,

Vasovagal syncope is a condition characterized by a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure leading to fainting.
According to a study conducted by AIIMS, yoga has been found to enhance the quality of life for individuals with Vasovagal syncope. It is a widespread clinical condition, with an estimated lifetime prevalence of 35%.

Sagittarius A, the closest supermassive black hole to the Earth, has transitioned from a dormant state to a highly luminous state, increasing its brightness by a million times.
Located at the center of the Milky Way, this black hole, which is immensely larger than the Sun, exhibited increased activity around two centuries ago, consuming nearby cosmic objects.
