Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 8th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog, at New Delhi.
It was attended by Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors representing 19 States and 6 UTs. HE urged the Centre, States and UTs should work as Team India and fulfil the dreams and aspirations of people for a Viksit Bharat at 2047.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the first Vande Bharat Express in Northeast India. It will travel from Assam’s Guwahati to West Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri.
The Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week (except Tuesdays) and will cut down the travel time between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri  by one hour.

Gomphonema rajaguruii is a newly discovered species of oxygen-supplying algae. It is named after a veteran geo-archaeologist, the late Professor S N Rajaguru.
Gomphonema rajaguruii is a freshwater diatom species. The finding is unique because it shows the characteristics of two genus — Gomphonema and Gomphoneis.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation recently released the latest figures from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS). These figures indicate that the unemployment rate in Indian cities is at the lowest since the survey started in 2018.
The unemployment rate among men stood at 6.0%, while for women it was 9.2%.

A new Jupiter-size exoplanet ‘TOI 4603b’ with the highest density known till this date and mass 13 times than that of Jupiter, has been discovered by an international team of scientists
ISRO says the discovery of this exoplanet has been made using the indigenously made PRL Advanced Radial-velocity Abu-sky Search spectrograph (PARAS) at the 1.2 m telescope of PRL at its Gurushikhar Observatory in Mount Abu.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) recently launched “e appeal” scheme announced in the budget.
Its aim is to minimize pendency of appeals related to Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) default issues and tax collection at source (TCS). The scheme empowers the Joint Commissioner (Appeals) for disposing of appeals filed before it or allocated or transferred to it.

Notes:
The WHA recently decided to set up the Global Alliance for Drowning Prevention. Its purpose is to prevent drowning worldwide.
This is the first alliance to address global public health concerns on the issue until 2029. The resolution asked member states to study national drowning scenarios within each country and implement policies and programmes to reduce risks.

The US Food and Drug Administration approved Pfizer’s RSV vaccine for older adults, the second such shot approved for the common virus.
Earlier in May, the agency approved the world’s first RSV vaccine for older adults, made by GSK. The vaccines could be available for seniors by fall, pending recommendations from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and its vaccine advisers.

Canada has introduced a new category-based selection system for its economic immigration management program, Express Entry.
This year, priority will be given to candidates with a high proficiency in French or work experience in fields such as healthcare, STEM professions, trades, transport, and agriculture/agri-food.

Notes:
An MoU was signed recently by the NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) to collaborate in the development of Renewable Energy Parks and Projects.
This MoU also seeks to facilitate renewable energy transition in India. NTPC is India’s largest Power Utility, with a total installed capacity of about 72 GW.
