Notes:
On 14 June 2023, the World Blood Donor Day was celebrated throughout the world. It is an annual event by the WHO, which commenced in 2005. The Theme for this year is “give blood, give plasma, share life, share often”.
This Day provides a special opportunity to celebrate and thank voluntary blood donors around the world and become a major focus for action towards achieving universal access to safe blood transfusion.

Notes:
The fourth vessel named Sanshodhak belonging to Survey Vessels (Large) SVL Project of Indian Navy was recently launched at Kattupalli, Chennai. The vessel was built by L &T/ GRSE for Indian Navy.
The launch ceremony was presided Chief guest of Launch Ceremony was Vice Admiral Adhir Arora, Chief Hydrographer to Government of India. The ship named ‘Sanshodhak’, meaning ‘Researcher’, signifies primary role of ship as a Survey Vessel.

Notes:
NASA posted a photo of the flower that bloomed in the zinnia plant which was sowed and grown in the International Space Station.
This particular experiment was started on the ISS in 2015 by NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren. The space garden, developed by the ISS, demonstrates the possibility of growing foods outside of the limits of Earth.

The European Green Deal, initiated in 2019, consists of a collection of policy initiatives aimed at guiding the European Union (EU) towards achieving climate neutrality by the year 2050.
Its current mandate is for the region to achieve climate neutrality by the middle of this century. The European Parliament’s environment committee voted 44-44 on an amendment tabled by the European People’s Party to reject the Nature Restoration Law.

EV Nautilus project was launched to venture into unexplored areas of the ocean, with the goal of uncovering novel findings in the fields of biology, geology, and archaeology.  This expedition is funded by NOAA Ocean Exploration through the Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute.
This project’s team recently discovered a remarkable ‘smiling’ creature, a deep sea snailfish, in the Pacific Ocean. Belonging to the Liparidae family, these ray-finned fishes are widely distributed across the world.

The 16-year-old debutant Aditi Gopichand Swamy broke the Under 18 compound world record to top the women’s qualification round in the third stage of the Archery World Cup.
The Indian women’s compound team of Jyothi, Aditi and Parneet topped the seedings with 2119 points in the qualifications. Compound men’s team of Abhishek, Ojas and Prathamesh settled for the second seed with 2112 points.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India joined the worldwide celebrations of 15th June as Global Wind Day.
Rajasthan was felicitated for achieving the highest wind capacity addition, Gujarat for achieving the highest wind capacity addition through open access and Tamil Nadu for initiating repowering of wind turbines. The event also witnessed the launch of Wind Atlas at 150 meter above ground level, prepared by National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE).

The European Central Bank (ECB) decided to raise borrowing costs again in an effort to bring down inflation.
The ECB increased its three key interest rates by 25 basis points (bps), bringing its main rate to 3.5%, the highest it has been in 22 years. The bank has moved rates up at each of its meetings since last July.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit end of this year will adopt ‘Bangkok vision 2030’
It will give direction to the organisation and the eminent persons group would also be guided by that. A marine transport cooperation agreement is also expected to be concluded at the summit.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced the appointment of Philip Green as Australia’s next High Commissioner to India.
Mr. Green, who was most recently Australia’s Ambassador to Germany, would succeed incumbent Barry O’Farrell.
