Notes:
A report by Mercer’s Cost of Living has positioned Mumbai as the most expensive city in India for expatriates.
According to the report, after Mumbai, cities like New Delhi and Bengaluru fall on the second and third place in the most expensive list for expats list in India. The Mercer’s Cost of Living survey was conducted across 227 cities from across five continents.

Notes:
With an aim to strengthen 1,514 urban co-operative banks in India, the Reserve Bank of India has notified four key measures.
As per the notification, Cooperative Banks are given two years more to meet the priority sector lending targets, UCBs can now open new branches up to 10 per cent of the number of branches in the previous financial year without prior approval of RBI.

China’s self-developed JF-22 wind tunnel is ready for hypersonic tests after passing a final evaluation.
Based in the Huairou district north of Beijing and reputedly the world’s fastest, the wind tunnel can simulate the environment in which a spacecraft re-enters the atmosphere. The goal of the JF-22 wind tunnel is to accelerate the development of a space-to-earth shuttle system.

Notes:
The Sudanese government has declared the UN envoy to the country, Volker Perthes, to be persona non grata, meaning it no longer recognizes his position in Sudan. This has been notified by the country to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Since 2015, Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have been locked in a violent power struggle that has killed more than 860 civilians. Perthes was a key mediator in Sudan since being appointed as special envoy in 2021.

The Union Home Minister, has recently announced three schemes worth ₹8,000 crore related to disaster management, which includes modernisation of fire services, flood mitigation in seven major cities and prevention of landslides in 17 states.
It was informed by the Minister, that for modernization and expansion of fire brigade services, about ₹5,000 crore assistance will be given to all States and  to mitigate the danger of floods in urban areas, in seven major cities, ₹2,500 crore will be given.

Notes:
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has inked a Rs.500 crore contract with ICOMM Tele, for the procurement of 1,035 numbers of 5/7.5 Ton Radio Relay Communication equipment containers. The delivery of the containers is scheduled to commence from the current Financial Year 2023-24.
These containers will be utilized to provide a protected environment for communication equipment to function in a failsafe and reliable manner.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone for the Fintech City and Fintech Tower projects in Chennai.
The Fintech City, spanning 56 acres with an investment potential of ₹12,000 crore, will accommodate international and national BFSI institutions, promoting job creation for 80,000 individuals.

NITI Aayog and the United Nations in India signed the Government of India – United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027.
It represents the UN development system’s collective offer to the Government of India, in line with the national vision for development, for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, promoting gender equality, youth empowerment and human rights.

High Courts of Allahabad and Delhi affirmed that the right to change one’s name is a fundamental aspect of the right to life under Article 21.
The Allahabad High Court allowed a man to change his name, emphasizing the constitutional rights granted under Articles 19(1)(a), 21, and 14, while the Delhi High Court permitted two brothers to reflect their father’s changed surname on their educational certificates, emphasizing the connection between the right to identity and the right to life under Article 21.

The Google introduced the Indian Languages Programme with the goal of offering training, assistance, and financial aid to small news publishers in India who work in eight local languages apart from English. The Indian Languages Programme seeks to support news publishers in English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Marathi through training, technical support, and funding.
