‘Mission Mode Cataract Surgery’ campaign was organized across India for screening, testing and awareness about cataract.
In the ‘Mission Mode Cataract Surgery’ campaign, the Union Health Ministry surpassed the target of 75 lakh cataract surgeries in 2022-23, with approximately 83 lakh surgeries conducted this year.

A report titled “Ignoring Red Lines: Violence Against Health Care in Conflict 2022” was released recently by Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition (SHCC), a group of international non-profits.
It revealed that the incidence of violence against healthcare workers in Mali increased by more than two-fold in 2022 in comparison to the previous year, 2021.

The inaugural meeting of the Joint Committee of the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement concluded recently.
During the meeting, both countries reviewed the bilateral trade under the CEPA. The 13th Ministerial Conference of the WTO (MC13) is scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, during February 2024.

The 12th edition of joint military exercise “Ex Ekuverin” between the Indian Army & the Maldives National Defence Force has commenced at Chaubatia, Uttarakhand.
Ekuverin meaning ‘Friends’ is a bilateral annual exercise conducted alternatively in India and Maldives.

The Special Olympics World Games will take place in Berlin, Germany from June 17 to 25 2023. The Indian contingent comprising 198 athletes and Unified Partners and 57 coaches reached Germany to participate in the event.
The Union Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 7.7 crores towards the participation of the Indian contingent at the Special Olympics, which is the highest amount sanctioned for the event to date.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has signed a MoU with Amazon Kisan for guiding farmers on scientific cultivation of different crops for optimum yield and income.
Under the agreement, ICAR will provide technological backstopping to the farmers through Amazon’s network. It will improve farmers’ livelihood and boost crop yield.

The Sudanese government has declared the UN envoy to the country, Volker Perthes, to be persona non grata, meaning it no longer recognizes his position in Sudan. This has been notified by the country to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Since 2015, Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have been locked in a violent power struggle that has killed more than 860 civilians. Perthes was a key mediator in Sudan since being appointed as special envoy in 2021.

On 14 June 2023, the World Blood Donor Day was celebrated throughout the world. It is an annual event by the WHO, which commenced in 2005. The Theme for this year is “give blood, give plasma, share life, share often”.
This Day provides a special opportunity to celebrate and thank voluntary blood donors around the world and become a major focus for action towards achieving universal access to safe blood transfusion.

The 2025 IIAS (International Institute of Administrative Sciences) annual conference is proposed to be held in India, at Kochi. The event will be attended by 30 member countries, 18 national sections and over 50 academic institutions.
The International Institute of Administrative Sciences, which is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, is a federation of member states, national sections and research institutions which elaborate on pubic administration solutions.
