Xylophis perroteti, commonly known as Perrotet’s mountain snake and is a striped narrow-headed snake in the family Pareidae. The species is endemic to Western Ghats and is restricted largely to the Nilgiris hills.
Recently, it is identified that the survival of this species is at the risk due to roads and vehicular movements.

The ‘International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)’ is an international agreement that obliges countries to uphold the rights pertaining to civil and political matters for individuals.
In 2007, the Sri Lankan government passed a law known as the ICCPR Act with the intention of incorporating the rights acknowledged by the ICCPR into their domestic legal system. It is currently being used to stifle free speech.

Karnataka state government clarified the guidelines of Gruha Jyoti under which 200 units of free power will be introduced.
Those seeking free power under Gruha Jyoti should enroll through the Seva Sindhu portal of the State Government. The state has 2.16 crore consumers who use less than 200 units of power.

The ‘International Trade Show’ will be organized from September 21 to 25 in Greater Noida. In this event, the Uttar Pradesh government will focus on 40 sectors.
During the three-day Global Investors Summit held in Lucknow earlier this year, the state received investment proposals worth Rs 35 lakh crore, of this the three Noida authorities alone accorded 27%.

A USD 130 million loan agreement was signed recently between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Indian Government.
The agreement is for the implementation of the Himachal Pradesh Subtropical Horticulture, Irrigation, and Value Addition Project. Its aim is to promote horticulture in the state.

The non-profit Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has released its annual report in which Telangana was ranked in the top in terms of overall environmental performance.
Telangana was ranked at the top for its progress in increasing its forest cover and in municipal waste treatment.

With an aim to strengthen 1,514 urban co-operative banks in India, the Reserve Bank of India has notified four key measures.
As per the notification, Cooperative Banks are given two years more to meet the priority sector lending targets, UCBs can now open new branches up to 10 per cent of the number of branches in the previous financial year without prior approval of RBI.

The Philippines’ most active volcano -Mayon Volcano- was gently spewing lava down its slopes, alerting tens of thousands of people.
More than 12,600 people have left the communities within a six-kilometre radius of the Volcano’s crater in mandatory evacuations since volcanic activity increased last week.

The Indian Navy, recently conducted a massive Carrier Battle Group (CBG) operation, which is considered as one of the biggest demonstrations of its operational capabilities in recent years.
The operation involved twin both of India’s aircraft carriers — INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant — along with a diverse fleet of escort ships, submarines and aircraft.

On 14 June 2023, the World Blood Donor Day was celebrated throughout the world. It is an annual event by the WHO, which commenced in 2005. The Theme for this year is “give blood, give plasma, share life, share often”.
This Day provides a special opportunity to celebrate and thank voluntary blood donors around the world and become a major focus for action towards achieving universal access to safe blood transfusion.
