The 15th BRICS summit will take place this year in late August in South Africa’s Durban. The announcement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei in Eritrea.
In 2013, the fifth annual BRICS summit was held in Durban, South Africa. BRICS was formed in 2006. In April 2011, for the first time, South Africa participated in the 3rd BRICS Summit.

The Khelo India Youth Games 2022 is being held in Madhya Pradesh from January 30 to February 11, 2023.
It will be the fifth edition of the event under the government of India’s Khelo India initiative. The last edition of the KIYG, Khelo India Youth Games 2021, was postponed thrice due to COVID-19 before finally being held in June last year. Consequently, the 2022 edition is being held in 2023.

In Madhya Pradesh, two Indian Air Force fighter aircraft (Sukhoi-30 and Mirage 2000) crashed in the Pahadgarh area.
Indian Air Force has ordered an inquiry to find the cause of accident of two fighter planes. The two aircraft had taken off from the Gwalior air base in Madhya Pradesh, as they were on a routine operational flying training mission.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal government is set to introduce e-scooter services in the city to mitigate the last-mile connectivity issues.
By next year, 1500 e-scooters will be introduced across 250 locations. As per the Chief Minister, a pilot project will be run from Dwarka since it has many metro stations and bus stops. The scooters will be self-driven, and its users can rent them using an integrated bus and metro card.

Patiala’s first Military Literature Festival recently concluded in the city of Patiala, Punjab. The Brave Heart Ride Motorcycle Rally was flagged off.
During the Patiala Military Literature Festival concluding day, Black Elephant Division of Indian Army Major paid tributes to the martyrs by offering floral garlands at War Memorial complex Cenotaph of Patiala State Forces and Black Elephant.

Martyrs’ Day, also known as Shaheed Diwas, is observed in India on January 30 to commemorate the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi
The nation paid homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 75th death anniversary. Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on this day in 1948.

India claimed its maiden ICC title in women’s cricket as it lifted the inaugural U-19 women’s’ World Cup.
India registered a seven-wicket victory over its England counterpart. The Indian Under-19 women cricket team was led by Shafali Verma.

As per the Economic Survey 2022-23, the central and state governments’ budgeted expenditure on healthcare touched 2.1 % of GDP in FY23 and 2.2% in FY22.
In FY21, the figure was only 1.6% in FY21. The Survey said that the share of expenditure on health in total expenditure on social services has risen from 21% in FY19 to 26 % in FY23 (BE). Out of-pocket expenditure (OOPE) as a percentage of total health expenditure has declined from 64.2% in FY14 to 48.2% in FY19.

The first G20 Energy Transition Working Group meeting under India’s Presidency will be held in Bengaluru from February 5th to 7th.
Technology gaps in energy transition, low-cost financing for energy transition, energy security and diversified supply chain, industrial low carbon transition and fuel for future are the priority areas of the Working group discussion.

Jharkhand governor Ramesh Bais sent the ‘1932 Khatiyan Bill’ back to the Hemant Soren government for reconsideration.
The Governor described it to be violative of Article 16 of the Constitution and court rulings. The state government had passed the ‘Jharkhand definition of local persons and for extending the consequential, social, cultural and other benefits to such local persons Bill, 2022’.
