Tech major Google has launched a new initiative named ‘Startup School’ to train start-up founders and their teams across the Asia Pacific region.
It is a virtual programme which provides a series of free virtual courses for start-up founders and their teams. Courses on digital marketing, product knowledge and business strategy would be the focus areas.

NITI Aayog has recently released the ‘Sustainable Development of Little Andaman Island – Vision Document’.
As per the document, it has proposed a plan for the sustainable development of the 680 sq km Little Andaman Island in the Andaman and Nicobar island group. A new greenfield coastal city is to be developed as a free trade zone to compete with Singapore and Hong Kong.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently inaugurated a new plant at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru.
It aims to double the production of the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, India’s indigenous fighter jet. The Defence Ministry also signed a Rs 48000 crore deal to procure 83 Tejas LCA from HAL. This is said to be the biggest indigenous defence procurement.

In the 2020 Democracy Index’s global ranking released by the Economist Intelligence Unit, India has slipped two positions and stood at 53rd position.
India’s score has declined from 7.92 in 2014 to 6.61 in 2020 and its ranking fell from 27 in 2014 to 53 in 2020.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has developed and released a mobile application named “Locate Nearest Police Station”.
The app is intended to help users including women commuters, interstate travellers, domestic and foreign tourists during emergency situations. It has a facility to dial 112.

The Serum Institute of India (SII) and UNICEF have recently entered into a long-term supply agreement.
Under the agreement, the UNICEF will have access to 1.1 billion doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford and the Novavax vaccines to distribute around 100 countries.

The Netherlands-based International Criminal Court (ICC) convicted former Ugandan warlord Dominic Ongwen of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Dominic Ongwen led a brigade of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) from 2002 to 2004. He was accused of 70 counts of crimes and was found guilty of 61 of them. LRA is a rebel group operating in Uganda for more than 20 years.

The Central government has given its approval for the creation of Srivilliputhur – Megamalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu.
This is the fifth tiger reserve in Tamil Nadu and will include the Meghamalai and Srivilliputhur Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuaries. The State government will notify its fifth tiger reserve, after the notification from the Centre.

After the Glacier burst occurred in the state of Uttarakhand, over hundred persons are missing in the massive flash flood.
The flood washed away two hydel power projects namely the Rishiganga small hydro project and National Thermal Power Corporation’s (NTPC) Tapovan project. The projects are located on the banks of the Dhauliganga river in the state.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has fixed the upper limit of 3% for the amount of trans fatty acids (TFA) in oils and fats, for the year 2021.
For the year 2022, the TFA levels have been capped at 2%. This has been done by an amendment to the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction on Sales) Regulations.
