In Myanmar, the military has taken control of the country under a 1-year state of emergency. Major leaders of the country including Aung San Suu Kyi are said to be detained.
In a television release, the military has stated that Article 417 of the country’s constitution have been invoked which allows military to take over in times of emergency.

In the Union Budget 2021-22, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a scheme of Mega Investment Textiles Parks (MITRA).
The scheme is to be launched in addition to the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. It aims to help the industry become competitive, attract investments and boost employment generation. Under the scheme, 7 Textile Parks will be established over 3 years.

The ‘ASEAN-INDIA Hackathon’ is an initiative taken by the Union Ministry of Education. This year’s edition has been inaugurated and is being organised online from 1st -3rd February 2021.
The event enables India and all the 10 ASEAN countries collaborate in the fields of education, science and technology. The countries also revive their economic and cultural ties under the event. This year the broad themes of the Hackathon are ‘Blue Economy’ and ‘Education’.

World Wetlands Day is observed every year on 2nd February to create awareness on the importance of wetlands and its role played in the planet.
This year, the theme of the World Wetlands Day is ‘Wetlands and Water’. This year’s theme highlights the importance of wetlands as a source of freshwater. It also encourages action from people and countries to restore them.

The Ministry of Power is set to launch a domestic manufacturing programme for critical power and renewable energy equipment.
The scheme titled ‘Manufacturing Zones under Atmanirbhar Bharat Package’ was announced in the Union Budget. With an outlay of Rs 1,500 crore in the coming financial year, the scheme includes setting up three manufacturing zones per year.

This year, the 16th edition of India-USA joint military exercise – Yudh Abhyas would be held between February 8 and 21.
This year’s exercise would be conducted at Indio-Pakistan border. The exercise aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries and will have a special focus on counter-terrorism operations.

Aviatech Enterprises, one of the companies of the Delhi-based Crown group, working in the field of defence aerospace maintenance, has tied up with the Russian aircraft corporation MiG.
This partnership has been made to provide post-warranty support to the Indian Navy’s MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB fighter jets.

The Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal launched a campaign called ‘Switch Delhi’. This is aimed to promote use of electric vehicles and the CM has appealed to the public to use electric vehicles to curb air pollution in the national capital.
It is also stated that, the Government of Delhi will hire only electric vehicles for various purposes in the next six weeks.

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, the legendary vocalist, is being rerembered on his birth anniversary today. The year-long birth centenary celebrations of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi begin today. Hailed as the Tansen of India, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, brought Hindustani classical music closer to the common man. He received the Bharat Ratna in 2008.

American digital payments major, PayPal Inc. announced that it will shut down its payment operations in the country.
PayPal, which was offering its payment gateway to Indian brands and online merchants, will shut down its domestic payment services in India, from April 1. It was also providing international remittance services for small and medium enterprises.
