World Wetlands Day is observed every year on 2nd February to create awareness on the importance of wetlands and its role played in the planet.
This year, the theme of the World Wetlands Day is ‘Wetlands and Water’. This year’s theme highlights the importance of wetlands as a source of freshwater. It also encourages action from people and countries to restore them.

Amazon has moved the Delhi High Court against Future Retail for selling its retail assets to Reliance Retail.
Amazon alleges that the ₹24,713 crore worth Future-Reliance deal violates its own contract with the Future Group. The Delhi High Court asked Future retail to maintain status quo. Earlier the Singapore Arbitration gave the Emergency Arbitrator (EA) award in favour of Amazon.

In the 2020 Democracy Index’s global ranking released by the Economist Intelligence Unit, India has slipped two positions and stood at 53rd position.
India’s score has declined from 7.92 in 2014 to 6.61 in 2020 and its ranking fell from 27 in 2014 to 53 in 2020.

The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development created “Track Child portal”, to track the missing and found children.
The Ministry provided the statistics recorded on this portal for the last 5 year. In the year 2020, from January 2020 to January 2021, 43515 children were found missing and 38113 children were found. All concerned authorities are asked to update the portal regularly.

Barbados is an island country located in the Caribbean region of North America. It is an independent British Commonwealth nation with Bridgetown as its capital.
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley has thanked the Indian government for donation of COVID-19 vaccine doses. The country has a population of over 2.87 lakhs with 1641 coronavirus cases.

The Indian High Commission announced that Sri Lanka has settled a USD 400 million currency swap facility with India.
In July 2020, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) had concluded the USD 400 million currency swap agreement, under the SAARC currency swap framework. This currency swap facility is available to all SAARC member countries.

The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) was raised under the CRPF for intelligence-based jungle warfare operations. It was launched in the year 2009.
Recently, a maiden contingent of 34 CRPF women personnel was inducted into the CoBRA force, which contained only male personnel till now. The new women team will be deployed in the anti-Naxal operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a programme in the state of Assam named ‘Asom Mala’. It aims to improve state highways and major district roads.
The programme also aims to provide quality inter-linking roads between the National Highways and the Rural roads. Another objective of the scheme is to promote ‘Multi-modal transportation’ in the state.

Russia defeated Italy to clinch the ATP Cup tennis tournament, held recently in Melbourne. World No. 4 Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev won their singles matches in straight sets.
With this win, the two Russian players head into the Australian Open. World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty also enters the Australian Open by winning her ninth WTA singles title by wiining the Yarra Valley Classic final.

The International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation is observed every year by the United Nations on February 6th. It was first observed in the year 2003.
This is a part of the UN’s efforts to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The theme for this year is “No Time for Global Inaction, Unite, Fund, and Act to End Female Genital Mutilation.”
