The Ministry of Power is set to launch a domestic manufacturing programme for critical power and renewable energy equipment.
The scheme titled ‘Manufacturing Zones under Atmanirbhar Bharat Package’ was announced in the Union Budget. With an outlay of Rs 1,500 crore in the coming financial year, the scheme includes setting up three manufacturing zones per year.

India hosted the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) Defence Ministers’ Conclave on February 4, 2021 on the side-lines of Aero India 2021 event.
The broad theme of the conclave is ‘Enhanced Peace, Security and Cooperation in the Indian Ocean’. During the conclave, India announced that it is ready to supply missile systems, LCA and other weapons systems to the countries in Indian Ocean Region.

Aviatech Enterprises, one of the companies of the Delhi-based Crown group, working in the field of defence aerospace maintenance, has tied up with the Russian aircraft corporation MiG.
This partnership has been made to provide post-warranty support to the Indian Navy’s MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB fighter jets.

The global rating agency Moody’s has estimated India’s nominal economic growth at 17% for the next financial year 2021-22.
The firm said that the 2021-22 budget presented recently in the Parliament has a focus on higher capital expenditure, financial sector reforms and asset sales. These measures are expected to stimulate growth.

In October 2020, the Union Education Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ virtually launched the ‘KAPILA’ Kalam Program for Intellectual Property Literacy and Awareness campaign.
Under the programme students of higher educational institutions will get information about the system of application process for patenting their invention. It aims to create awareness about the Intellectual Property Rights.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to set up an expert committee on Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) involving all stakeholders.
The Committee would prepare a road map to strengthen the sector, enable faster resolution of UCBs. In 2020, the Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) and Multi-State Co-operative Banks were brought under the supervisory power of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Notes:
State-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) delivered three Mk-III Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) to the Indian Navy.
The indigenous naval version of the helicopters is customised for coastal security, to detect intrusions on Indian waters. These three helicopters are among the 16 Mk-III helicopters ordered from the HAL.

Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is promoting the Floating Structure infrastructure in India. It has implemented projects including passenger floating jetties in Goa, water-aerodromes at Sabarmati River and seaplane services at Sardar Sarovar Dam.
Recently, the Ministry issued guidelines for floating structures to suggest technical aspects for implementation of Minor Harbors, Waterdromes, Floating Jetties among others.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a programme in the state of Assam named ‘Asom Mala’. It aims to improve state highways and major district roads.
The programme also aims to provide quality inter-linking roads between the National Highways and the Rural roads. Another objective of the scheme is to promote ‘Multi-modal transportation’ in the state.

Notes:
The Education Ministry is set to name the 383 residential schools and 680 hostels funded under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme as ‘Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose residential schools.
Under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, the Ministry provides financial assistance to States and UTs to open and run residential schools, to promote schooling in less populated areas and tribal areas.
