NASA’s Super Pressure Balloon Imaging Telescope (SuperBIT), which launched recently, has captured its first research images.
The SuperBIT is a diffraction-limited balloon-borne telescope that functions within the Earth’s stratosphere to achieve space-like operating conditions and performance. It recently captured antennae galaxies and tarantula nebula.

Fort Dansborg, also known as the Danish Fort, was built in 1620 at the eastern coastal village of Tharangambadi.
The Tamil Nadu state tourism department has sanctioned Rs.3 crore to conduct various infrastructure development works at this fort.

Union Culture Ministry organises the ‘Kalanjali’ event, under which various kinds of cultural programmes will be organised at Central Vista, India Gate in Delhi every weekend.
Prime Minister Modi recently appreciated this initiative by the Culture Ministry.

The country’s first water-based metro service started commercial operations in Kochi, Kerala. Water Metro ferries began their commercial operation on the Vyttila-Kakkanad route.
Kochi Water Metro saw a footfall of 6,559 passengers. Manufactured by Cochin Shipyard Limited, the metro project will run eight electric hybrid boats on two routes.

‘National Panchayati Raj Day’ is celebrated every year on April 24. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj in collaboration with the state Government of Madhya Pradesh is commemorating National Panchayati Raj Day in Madhya Pradesh as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – Samaaveshi Vikaas (Inclusive Development).
The Prime Minister was the Chief Guest at the national function.

India has become the first country in the world to have annual remittances from abroad crossing the USD 100-billion mark.
According to the World Bank, private remittances, or transfer of money from NRI to friends and relatives in India crossed the threshold in 2022, with a year-on- year growth of 12%.

World Malaria Day is observed on April 25. The theme for this year is ‘Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement’.
According to the latest WHO World Malaria Report, published in December, there were an estimated 247 million new cases of malaria in 2021.

The Factories (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Bill, 2023 was introduced by the state government to enable factories to have flexible working hours.
The proposed amendment is to extend the daily shifts of factory workers to 12 hours instead of the existing eight hours if they opt for a four-day work week. The bill was put on hold due to concerns from critics.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) -made MV MA Lisha is an India-made ferry that was commissioned recently in Georgetown in Guyana.
The ferry is 70 metres long and propelled by two diesel engines and it is the largest and fastest ferry to operate in the riverine and coastal parts of the northwest district of Guyana. 185 years ago, two ships- SS Whitby and SS Hesperus, left from Kolkata with Indian workers for Guyana.
