Notes:
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) recently appointed Ashish Garg as its new President for the year 2020. Another member of ICSI, Nagendra D Rao has been elected Vice-President of the Institute. Ashish Garg was elected to the central council of ICSI for the 2015-18 term and has been re-elected for the 2019-22 term.
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is a New Delhi based statutory body to promote and regulate the profession of company secretaries in India.

Notes:
The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Jogbani-Biratnagar border between India and Nepal, with the Prime Minister of Nepal, K P Sharma Oli.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the ICP through Video conferencing. This second Integrated Check Post, which has been built with the assistance of India, at Jogbani-Biratnagar, facilitates trade and movement of people between the countries. The first ICP was built in the Raxaul-Birgunj border in 2018.

The National Bravery awards for the year 2019 were recently presented by the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) in New Delhi.22 children including 10 girls were selected for the National Bravery awards. Among them, one award was given posthumously. The highest award called Bharat award was conferred on a 15-year-old Kerala boy Adithya, for saving more than 40 lives after a bus accident.
Indian Council for Child Welfare was formed in the year 1952, which initiated this award to recognize children for their brave and spontaneous selfless service or their daring act against a social crime.

During the 50th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2020 recently being held at Davos, WEF along with its partners launched a platform called 1t.org, to support and conserve 1 trillion trees around the world. The plan was announced by the Founder and Executive Chairman of WEF, Klaus Schwab.
The United States also joined the scheme, which is a major initiative to restore the planet and tackle climate crises. The initiative will also support other initiatives and organisations which work to conserve and restore forests. It unifies the platform and provide political support and helps in mobilising funds.

The Team of Maharashtra dominated the Khelo India Youth Games by clinching the overall trophy for the second time with a huge haul of 256 medals, including 78 gold and 77 silver. Last year, Maharashtra topped the table with 228 medals. The trophy was presented to Maharashtra by the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal in the presence of Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijju, during the closing ceremony.
The second place was bagged by the state of Haryana with 200 medals and Delhi with 122 medals. Khelo India Youth games has been organised in Assam’s Guwahati for the last 13 days.

Notes:
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently increased the investment limit for FPIs in government and corporate bonds from 20 per cent to 30 per cent.
As of now, the Foreign portfolio investors (FPI) could not invest more than 20 per cent of their total investment in either central government securities or state development loans or corporate bonds. This relaxation is expected to attract more investments and increase the inflow of funds into the Indian market. FPIs are allowed to invest in exchange-traded funds that invest only in debt instruments.

The ‘National Girl Child Day’ is celebrated every year in India, on January 24. It was started by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development from 2008 and the day is celebrated on January 24 every year, to create awareness among people about inequalities and exploitation faced by the girls in the society.
Several awareness programmes and campaigns are being organised across the country to spread awareness about the rights of the girl child. Programmes which promote the importance of education, health and nutrition for girls are also held.

National Voters’ Day is being celebrated across the country on January 25. It was first celebrated on January 25, 2011, to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India (ECI). Which was established on the same day in 1950.
The National Voters’ day of this year marks the tenth year of celebration and the 70th year of functioning of the Election Commission of India. The theme for the National Voters’ Day, 2020 is ‘Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy’. Indian President Ram Nath Kovind will be the Chief Guest of the celebration organised at New Delhi, by the ECI.

The International Children’s Film festival was recently inaugurated in the capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka. It is one of the biggest film festivals in the country and the only international festival which is celebrated exclusively for children and young adults since 2008.
The festival is organized by the Children’s Film Society of Bangladesh and will feature 173 films from 39 countries. The 7 day-long festival is set to conclude on 31st of January. To mark the 100th birth anniversary of the country’s founding President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, ‘Khoka Jokhon Chhoto Chhilen’ movie was screened. The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Under The World’.

The national Tourism day is being celebrated in India on January 25 every year. The day is celebrated to raise awareness the global community about the importance of tourism for the country’s economy and its social, political, financial and cultural worth.
