Notes:
India’s first largest biotechnology stakeholders conglomerate – the Global Bio-India (GBI) Summit, 2019 was held in New Delhi on 24th November. The 3-day summit provided an opportunity to showcase the potential of India’s biotech sector to the international community, identify, create opportunities and deliberate on the key challenges in the areas of Bio-pharma, Bio-Agri, Bio-Industrial, Bio-Energy and Bio-Services and allied sectors.

Notes:
The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a massive immunization campaign against the filariasis (or Filaria) from 25th of November 2019. Under this campaign, more than 65 thousand teams of health workers will distribute medicines to around 6.5 crore people till 10 December in 19 districts. The Central government has set year 2021 as the deadline for complete eradication of filaria in country.

The Chhattisgarh government has decided to declare Guru Ghasidas National Park in the Korea district as a tiger reserve. Presently the state has three tiger reserves viz. Indravati in Bijapur district, Udanti-Sitanadi in Gariaband and Achanakmar in Bilaspur.

The Indore-based Devi Ahilya University has become the first university of Madhya Pradesh to be accorded A grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Now, the Centre of higher learning became entitled to several other facilities. It may introduce courses recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) without the latter’s permission besides commencing open distance-learning courses. The institute was established in 1964 by an Act of Legislature of Madhya Pradesh.

The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri launched Credit-linked Subsidy Services Awas Portal (CLAP)  in New Delhi on 27th of November 2019. The portal provides a transparent and robust real-time web-based monitoring system for credit-linked Subsidy Services, CLSS, beneficiaries. Using the portal, a beneficiary can track his application status in real-time.

Notes:
The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to launch the project  titled ‘Shakti’  to alert the public through Short Message Service (SMS) system about crimes like abduction. The system will help prevent such crimes and solve them too.

The book titled “Hemant Karkare: A Daughters Memoir” has been authored by his daughter Jui Karkare Navare. The book portrays former Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare’s life as a father to his daughter.  Her father was gunned down by Pakistani ISI-backed terrorists who’d stormed Mumbai on the night of 26 November 2008. Beside him, the 18 security personnel also lost their lives in the 26/11 terror attacks.

The NDTV has won the 2019 IPI India Award for Excellence in Journalism 2019 for its  coverage of the  conspiracy to scuttle probe into the heinous Kathua rape and murder case probe and a strong expose of the political hypocrisy across the political spectrum. The story was anchored by senior journalist Nidhi Razdan. The Indian chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI) is an active forum of Editors, Publishers and Senior Executives of newspapers, magazines and news agencies, all of whom are members of the International Press Institute.

As part of its ‘Swachha Odisha Sustha Odisha’ campaign, the Odisha Government has decided to replicate Tamil Nadu model of Micro Composting Centre (MCC) for proper segregation and management of wet waste. The Solid waste management is a cause of concern for urban local bodies (ULBs) due to a rapid urbanisation.

Notes:
Two IITs (IIT Gandhinagar & IIT Kharagpur)  and the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) have joined hands to develop Gandhipedia to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary. The Gandhipedia is an online repository of books, letters and speeches written by Mahatma Gandhi. Approx 100 works of Mahatma Gandhi such as his letters and speeches, would be uploaded in the portal. The entire project will be done with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
