Notes:
The 70th Constitution Day (or Samvidhan divas) is celebrated on 26th of November 2019 across the country to mark the adopting of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly on this day in 1949.  The constituent assembly took two years, 11 months and 17 days to accomplish the stupendous task of drafting the historic document.  It is the longest written constitution of any sovereign country in the world. The Constitution declares India a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic, assuring its citizens justice, equality and liberty and endeavours to promote fraternity. It came into force on 26th January 1950 to marking the beginning of a new era in the history of Indian Republic. 

Notes:
The Indian Navy will host multi-nation military drill ‘Milan 2020’ at Visakhapatnam in March 2020 & will witness the participation of 41 nations from South Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe. The areas of cooperation include capacity building, marine domain awareness, training, hydrography, technical assistance, operational exercise.

The Union government has recommended a biodiversity study of the proposed 3,097 MW Etalin Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh by a credible international institute since the current environmental impact assessment was found to be completely inadequate.  The project is estimated to cost Rs 25,296.95 crore & is proposed to be completed in 7 years. But, the project would entail felling 2,80,677 trees and threatens the existence of 6 globally-endangered mammal species. The area also has 680 species of birds, which is about 56% of the total avian species found in India. The Forest Advisory Committee of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has also advised caution in pursuing the project since it falls under the richest bio-geographical province of the Himalayan zone and would be located at the junction of the Palaearctic, Indo-Chinese and Indo-Malayan bio-geographic regions.

In a bid to conserve the endangered vulture population, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up state’s first vulture conservation and breeding centre in farenda area of Maharajganj district. The new centre would be set up in association with Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), a wildlife research organization. It will be the first scientific assessment of vultures in the state to find out which species is most threatened and the locations where these natural scavengers are thriving. It will be set up on the lines of Jatayu Conservation Breeding Centre at Pinjore in Haryana, which is also the first in the country.

The National Milk Day (NMD) is celebrated every year on 26th of November to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of India’s White Revolution. The White Revolution (also known as Operation Flood) was launched in 1970. It is considered to be world’s biggest dairy development programme which transformed India from a milk deficient nation to the one of the largest producers of milk in the world.

The Child Relief and You (CRY) has recently its report titled “How vulnerable are children in India to crime?”, which is based on the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for 2016-2017 data released on 21st October 2019 after a gap of two years. The report reveals that crimes against children rose by 20% higher than overall number of crimes which rose by 3.6%. As per CRY report, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have topped the list of States for overall crimes against children. Both stood at 14.8% with over 19,000 cases. The highest increase in crimes against children was seen in Jharkhand at 73.9% while Manipur had a significant decline of 18.7% between 2016 and 2017.

The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to launch the project  titled ‘Shakti’  to alert the public through Short Message Service (SMS) system about crimes like abduction. The system will help prevent such crimes and solve them too.

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) has become the first Indian firm to hit Rs 10 lakh crore mark in market capitalization following a spike in its share price. The oil-to-telecom conglomerate’s market capitalisation (m-cap) zoomed to Rs 10.02 lakh crore during morning trade on the BSE. TCS is the India’s 2nd most valued firm with a market valuation of Rs 7,79,708.02 crore, followed by HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever and HDFC. The m-cap figures of companies change daily with stock price movement.

The European Union (EU) has recently declared a global climate and environmental emergency in a symbolic move aimed at increasing pressure on the incoming European Commission (EC) to take a stronger stance on climate change. The climate declaration was passed in Strasbourg during a European Parliament debate on the upcoming United Nations’ COP25 climate summit. The summit kicks off on 2nd December in Madrid. The resolution calls on the EU to cut emissions by 55% by 2030 to become climate neutral by 2050.

The Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) has signed a pact to organize “National Organic Festival of Women Entrepreneurs”.  The event will be planned and organized through NIFTEM (National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management), which is an academic institution under the administrative control of MoFPI. The purpose of the festival is to encourage Indian women entrepreneurs and farmers to connect with buyers and empower them through financial inclusion. The fest will also  promote organic food produce in India.
