Notes:
The Floating school named ‘The Arcadia Education Project’ has won the prestigious  Aga Khan Architecture Award 2019 in Kajan, republic of Tatarastan. The school is located in South Kanarchor of Bangladesh. It is an innovative project for constructing a floating school for marginalized children in the country. The architect of the project Saif Ul Haque designed a school which remains on the ground during dry season and floats when the area is submerged in water during monsoon. He utilized only the local material-bamboo, used tyres and steel drums for constructing the amphibious structure for school. The workforce and artisans for the project were also drawn locally. The school also serves as a shelter, a day care centre and a vocational training centre for the local people.

Notes:
In Telangana, the Indian Railway Institute of Financial Management (IRIFM) has been set up  in Hyderabad to impart professional training in management of railway finances. The institution marks an important addition to the list of premier professional institutions in the country in the field of financial management. The IRIFM institution is based on a 14-acre campus at Moula-Ali, Secunderabad.

Notes:
On the occasion of 70th Constitution Day, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ launched the kartavya.ugc.ac.in portal as a part of year long nationwide ‘Nagrik Kartavya Paalan Abhiyan’. The portal will be used primarily for holding monthly essay competitions for students as well as other activities like quizzes, debates, poster making etc pertaining to  Abhiyan.

Madhu Shetye (89), the senior journalist and activist, has passed away in Mumbai on 27th November 2019. He was a founding member of the Mumbai Press Club (MPC). He was a former corporator in the Mumbai municipal corporation and had participated in the Samyukta Maharashtra and Goa liberation movements.

The Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sports has constituted a 13-member expert committee, headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Mukundakam Sharma, to review the Draft National Sports Code.  The committee has been formed to suggest measures to make the Sports Code acceptable to all the stakeholders. It will try to strike a balance between the autonomy of National Sports Federations vis-a-vis need for transparency and autonomy.

Australian writer and broadcaster, Clive James (80) has passed away in Cambridge, United Kingdom on 24th of November 2019. He was known around the world for his dry wit. Born in 1939, he moved to England in 1961 and rose to prominence as a literary critic and TV columnist. He went on to deliver wry commentary on international programming in such shows as Clive James On Television.

Notes:
The 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup will be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29. It would the first time a country would be hosting successive editions of the premier tournament in the sport but the same city hosting it twice makes it even special. However, this time, Bhubaneswar (which hosted the 2018 WC) would share hosting rights with the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.

The world-renowned US rock climber, Brad Gobright has fell to his death while climbing a sheer rock face in northern Mexico  on 29th of November 2019. He was best known for his gravity-defying solo ascents with no ropes. 

Notes:
Two IITs (IIT Gandhinagar & IIT Kharagpur)  and the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) have joined hands to develop Gandhipedia to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary. The Gandhipedia is an online repository of books, letters and speeches written by Mahatma Gandhi. Approx 100 works of Mahatma Gandhi such as his letters and speeches, would be uploaded in the portal. The entire project will be done with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Notes:
The Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) has signed a pact to organize “National Organic Festival of Women Entrepreneurs”.  The event will be planned and organized through NIFTEM (National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management), which is an academic institution under the administrative control of MoFPI. The purpose of the festival is to encourage Indian women entrepreneurs and farmers to connect with buyers and empower them through financial inclusion. The fest will also  promote organic food produce in India.
