NASA has recently launched its first all-electric experimental aircraft  (or X-plane). The aircraft has been designated as X-57, and will be known as “Maxwell” for short. The aircraft is expected to take its first test flight by late 2020 from Edwards Air Force Base in the desert of southern California.

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has launched a mass cleanliness-cum-awareness drive in 50 identified beaches under the programme called ‘Swachh- Nirmal Tat Abhiyaan’ from 11 -17 November 2019. The purpose of the initiative is to strive to make coastal areas across the country clean and to create awareness amongst citizens about the importance of coastal ecosystems so as to save marine creatures from plastic waste, industrial effluents and other harmful substances. The identified beaches are in 10 coastal States/ UTs viz. Gujarat, Daman & Diu, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha.

To encourage organ donation, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an annual award in the name of Suraj Sethi, whose organs were transplanted in six persons following hisdeath in a road accident on October 29.He was a resident of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district & was working at Surat.

The Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has decided to launch a mobile app “Sishu Suraksha” on the occasion of National Children’s Day. The purpose of the app is to empower citizens to take moral responsibility of protecting future generations. The app can be used by anyone in the state to lodge a complaint which will be directly registered at Commission.

In New Delhi, the Good Air Summit (GAS-2019) has been organized by the Integrated Health and Wellbeing Council  (IHWC) under the theme ‘Making India Breathe’. Over 2,000 students took the pledge to make environment greener and pollution-free at the summit. The purpose of the summit is to make the young children and citizens take responsibility for Good Air and bringing changes in the behaviour of individuals towards keeping society clean of pollutions. Here, the students joined the nationwide drive ‘Good Air Movement’ that aims to cover Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Ahmedabad to Aizawl by 2025 to create mass awareness and mobilize public action towards good air goals as well as engage and educate 50 crore people.

The 7th edition of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Asia Regional Conservation Forum was held in Islamabad, Pakistan. During the summit, experts said that the rapid melting of glaciers and reduced snowfall in the Himalayas due to climate change will cause water and food shortage for more than 8 hundred million people inhabiting the region if effective adaptation and mitigation measures are not implemented before 2030. The Himalayan mountain range is 2,500Km long with an average width of around 300 kilometers spanning China, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bhutan. It is home to around 15,000 glaciers, holding around 600 billion tonnes of ice, which feed major perennial river systems including the Indus and Mekong, and sustain 1.65 billion people.

E-commerce major Amazon has rolled out ‘Project Zero’ in India that will provide brands with additional tools to identify and remove counterfeits from its platform. The Project Zero features three tools viz. ‘automated protections’, ‘self-service counterfeit removal tool’ and ‘product serialization’. The brands will have to sign up for the initiative to access the tools.

The 2019 World Kabaddi Cup is being organized by the Punjab government i.e. scheduled to be held from December 1 to 9. This year’s tournament would be dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Sikh guru – Guru Nanak Dev ji. Nine teams — India, USA, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan and Canada — are expected to take part in the tournament.

Renowned mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh passed away in Patna on 14th November 2019. Born in 1942 in Basantpur village of the Bhojpur district in Bihar, Singh became a legend as a student when he was allowed by Patna University to appear in the two-year course of B.Sc (Hons) in Mathematics in its very first year.

The first-ever international buyer seller meet on agriculture and horticulture produce has started at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. As per the Union Ministry of Agriculture, this event is part of the initiative of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) to bring the North-Eastern states of India on the export map.The 10 International buyers from 7 countries of Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia, UAE, Sultanate of Oman and Greece participated in the meet and interacted with exporters.
