Top lowest poverty states are Kerala (0.71%poor), Goa (3.76% poor), Sikkim (3.82% poor), Tamil Nadu (4.89% poor) and Punjab (5.59 % poor). Kottayam district in Kerala is the only district, registering zero poverty across India.

It has been decided to impart training in maternal health to all A-grade staff nurses. Under the Midwifery Initiative program, all A-grade staff nurses will be trained as Nurse Practitioners in Midwifery (NPM) for 18 months in a phased manner.
According to the Health Department, the state government has taken this decision to bring down the maternal and child mortality rate.

For the fiscal year 2022–2023, the Bihar government has allocated a budget of 42 crore rupees for the purchase of battery-powered tricycles for employees and students with disabilities.

The North Koel Canal will connect Jharkhand to the Gaya district in Bihar. With an approved cost of ₹1,364 crore, it aims to enhance the irrigation abilities of the region, specifically in paddy and rabi crops. Not only does this benefit the local farmers, but it also strengthens the agricultural economy of Bihar. The Water Resources Department is managing the project, with work set to start in March or April 2023.

Anjani Kumari from Bihar is a javelin thrower. She gave an outstanding performance at the India Grand Prix-4 in Bangalore where she won a gold medal in the senior women’s javelin throw event with a throw of 47.03 meters. Anjani’s achievement led to her selection for the National Center of Excellence at NIS Patiala, where she will further prepare for major events like the Asian Athletics Championships, the Asian Games and the World Athletics Championships.

In the year 2022-23, Bihar produced 8.46 lakh tonnes of fish, surpassing its annual requirement for the first time and becoming self-sufficient in fish production. The highest fish production was recorded in Madhubani district, which produced 88.96 thousand tonnes of fish, making it the highest fish producing district in Bihar. Leading districts of fish production in 2022-23 were – Madhubani (0.89 lakh lonnes), Darbhanga (0.83 lakh tonnes) and East Champaran (0.71 lakh tonnes), logether accounting for 28.7 percent of the total fish production in the state.

Soni Chowdhary is a Maithili folk singer from Darbhanga, Bihar. She was awarded ‘Bihar Ratna Samman’ on June 3, 2023, for her outstanding contribution to Maithili music. The award was presented by Vishwamohan Chaudhary, the President of Bihar’s National Youth Welfare Council, at a ceremony in Patna. She has also received awards like the ‘Sangeet Ratna Samman 2022’ and ‘Sur Madhukar Samman’.
