The Union government announced that regional air connectivity levy charged from commercial airlines under the UDAN scheme will be increased to ₹10,000 per departure from January 1, 2023.
Currently, the levy under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme is ₹5,000 per departure. The levy will further increase to ₹15,000 from April 2023 till April 2027.

The Union Finance Ministry allowed airlines to avail of up to Rs 1,500 crore loan under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS).
Earlier, an airline could not avail of a loan more than Rs 400 crore under the ECLGS. In 2020, the ECLGS was launched to provide collateral-free and government-guaranteed loans to businesses affected by the Covid pandemic. This new decision would help airlines tackle cash flow problems.

Indigo airlines appoints former SEBI chairman M Damodaran as a non-independent non-executive director. The Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of Indigo airlines has approved the appointment of M Damodaran as a non-existent executive director subjected to shareholders’ approval.

SriLankan Airlines (formerly known as Air Lanka) is the national carrier of Sri Lanka. It operates over 560 flights per week across Asia, to over 100 destinations in 51 countries.
Sri Lanka’s new government has planned to sell its national airline to cut the losses, as a part of efforts to stabilize the nation’s finances. The carrier incurred losses to the tune of USD 124 million in the year ending March 2021.

• Swiss International Air Lines AG (SWISS or Swiss Air Lines) and its parent company, Lufthansa Group have partnered with Switzerland based solar fuels start-up, Synhelion SA (Synhelion) to use its solar aviation fuel. Swiss International Airlines will become the first airline to use solar aviation fuel (“sun-to-liquid” fuel) to help power its flights. SWISS will become the first customer of solar kerosene in 2023.
• For this, Synhelion has developed a technology for manufacturing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from renewable energy sources. When combusted solar fuel will only produce as much CO2 as went into its manufacture, cutting aviation emissions. Synhelion is set to build the world’s first facility to industrially produce solar fuel in Jülich, Germany. The plant will become operational from 2022 onwards.
