Punjab Police Launch Operation Parhar to Dismantle Gangster Networks

Punjab Police on Tuesday launched ‘Operation Parhar’, a large-scale crackdown aimed at dismantling organised gangster networks and making the state crime-free. The operation marks one of the most extensive coordinated law enforcement actions in recent years, reflectingr reflecting the state’s intensified push against organised crime and its supporting ecosystem.

Statewide Crackdown and Operational Scale

Under Operation Parhar, around 2,000 police teams comprising nearly 12,000 personnel have simultaneously launched raids across Punjab. The coordinated action is focused on tracking, arresting and neutralising active gangsters and their operational associates involved in violent crime, extortion, illegal arms trade and organised criminal activity.

Identification of Gangsters and Criminal Ecosystem

Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that police have mapped 60 major gangsters and nearly 1,200 associates operating across the state. He said strict action would be taken against all those identified. The operation aims not only to arrest offenders but also to dismantle the entire criminal ecosystem, including financing channels, logistics networks, safe houses, weapons supply chains and communication links.

Citizen Participation and Anti-Gangster Helpline

To strengthen public participation, Punjab Police have launched a dedicated Anti-Gangster Helpline number — 93946-93946. Citizens have been urged to share information related to gangster activities in their localities. The DGP assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential, encouraging wider community cooperation in restoring law and order.
