Puducherry Police Receives President’s Colour

The Puducherry Police received the President’s Colour, also called Nishaan, at a ceremony held on 9 August 2026 at the Puducherry Armed Police Ground in Gorimedu. The President’s Colour is the highest honour conferred on a disciplined force in India, and Puducherry became the 18th State or Union Territory police force to receive it.

President’s Colour in India

The President’s Colour is a ceremonial distinction awarded to military and police units for distinguished service. The honour is presented by the President of India or a designated representative, and it is associated with regimental traditions, service record, and institutional discipline.

Puducherry Police and Territorial Policing

Puducherry Police functions in a Union Territory with four geographically separated regions. These regions are Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, and the force is responsible for law and order across all four areas.

Ceremony and Official Presence

Union Home Minister Amit Shah handed over the President’s Colour to the Ensign Officer of the Puducherry Police. Director General of Police Shalini Singh was present during the presentation, and the event was attended by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Home Minister A. Namassivayam.
