PM VIKAS MoU Signed with IIT Palakkad for Minority Skilling

The Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, launched a key skilling project in October 2025. This initiative, under the Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan (PM VIKAS) scheme, aims to empower minority communities in Kerala. The project is implemented in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Palakkad. It focuses on equipping youth with advanced technical skills in emerging fields. The collaboration targets the socio-economic upliftment of minorities through skill development and employment opportunities.

Background and Objectives

The PM VIKAS scheme is a flagship programme designed to promote socio-economic empowerment of minority communities. It focuses on skill development and entrepreneurship. The scheme aims to create sustainable livelihoods and enhance employability. The recent MoU signing with IIT Palakkad marks step in these efforts. Scope of the Training Programme

IIT Palakkad will train 400 candidates from minority communities in Kerala. The training fields include Junior Chip Designing, Embedded Software Engineering, and Junior Engineering in Drone Research and Development. Specifically, 150 trainees will be skilled as Junior Chip Designers, 150 as Embedded Software Engineers, and 100 as Junior Engineers in Drone R&D. The Ministry of Minority Affairs will fully fund the training, including stipends for trainees.

Implementation and Support

IIT Palakkad, an Institute of National Importance, will implement the training programme. It has a strong focus on technology, innovation, and incubation. The institute will provide placement support to trainees after completion. This includes assistance for both employment and self-employment opportunities. The project aims to build technical capacity and encourage innovation among minority youth. It also seeks to create a skilled workforce that meets industry demands.
