PM Modi to Inaugurate RBI Data Centre in Odisha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Greenfield Data Centre and Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute on 25 October 2026. The facility is at Info Valley-II in Jatni, Khordha district, near Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Its estimated project cost is ₹169 crore.
Location and project features
The facility covers 18.55 acres. A greenfield project is developed on a new site rather than by expanding an existing facility. The foundation stone for the RBI project was laid on 22 March 2023 by then RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das.
The data centre is designed to operate as a secondary backup to the RBI’s primary data centre at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai. Data centres use computing and storage infrastructure to process and preserve digital information. A secondary facility can support data recovery and continuity of operations when the primary site is disrupted.
Cybersecurity and financial infrastructure
The institute is intended to train technical experts in enterprise computing and cybersecurity. Cybersecurity involves protecting computer systems, networks and data from unauthorised access, disruption or damage. Enterprise computing refers to information technology systems used to support an organisation’s operations.
The RBI is India’s central bank. It was established on 1 April 1935 under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, and was nationalised in 1949. Its functions include monetary policy, currency management and regulation of banks.
Project timeline and water demand
The inauguration is scheduled during the Prime Minister’s visit to Odisha on 25 October 2026. It would be his ninth visit to the state since the BJP formed the state government in June 2024. On 23 October 2026, the Congress party in Odisha raised concerns about an estimated daily water requirement of around 2 crore litres, alleging possible effects on groundwater reserves and agriculture.
