PM Modi to inaugurate Guwahati airport terminal, key Assam projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Assam for two days from December 20 to inaugurate and dedicate a series of major infrastructure and development projects. The visit underscores the Centre’s focus on boosting connectivity, industrial growth, and public infrastructure in the Northeast, with Guwahati emerging as a key regional hub.
New Guwahati airport terminal inauguration
A major highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of the new terminal building of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on December 20. Built at an estimated cost of ₹4,000 crore, the terminal has been designed with a modern architectural vision and enhanced passenger facilities. The terminal will be formally dedicated to the nation. An 80-foot statue of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi will also be unveiled at the airport premises, commemorating the legacy of Assam’s first chief minister.
Urban connectivity and political engagement
Alongside the airport project, plans have been announced for the construction of an elevated corridor on the airport road to improve connectivity between the airport and Jalukbari. The project aims to ease traffic congestion while enhancing the city’s urban aesthetics. After the inauguration, the Prime Minister will interact with party workers at the BJP state office in Guwahati, marking a key political engagement during the visit.
Riverfront, students’ interaction and homage
On December 21, the Prime Minister will visit the river terminal on the Brahmaputra in Guwahati and board the Charaideo vessel. From there, he will participate in the ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ programme with a select group of students. He will also pay homage to the 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement at Swahid Smarak in Boragaon, recognising the state’s historic democratic struggle.
