PM Modi Addresses Bagurumba Dwhou Celebrating Bodo Heritage
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Bagurumba Dwhou 2026, a landmark cultural event celebrating the heritage of the Bodo community, at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. The Prime Minister described the occasion as a vibrant expression of Assam’s cultural identity and reiterated his commitment to giving the state’s art and traditions a national and global platform.
Showcasing Assam and Bodo Cultural Pride
The Prime Minister noted that no other Prime Minister has visited Assam as frequently as he has, reflecting his personal connection with the state. He highlighted sustained efforts to promote Assam’s culture through grand celebrations, including large-scale Bihu festivities, Jhumoir Binondini, and the Bodo Mahotsav held in New Delhi. Describing Bagurumba Dwhou as more than a festival, he said it is a tribute to Bodo traditions and a celebration of Assam’s living heritage.
Remembering Icons of the Bodo Community
Shri Modi paid tribute to eminent Bodo leaders and reformers such as Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, Rupnath Brahma, Satish Chandra Basumatary, Moradam Brahma, and Kanakeswar Narzary. He acknowledged their role in social reform, cultural renaissance, and political awakening, stating that India’s history remains incomplete without Assam’s past and contributions.
Peace, Recognition and Cultural Revival
The Prime Minister highlighted key milestones achieved under the current government, including national recognition for Bihu, the inclusion of Charaideo Moidam in UNESCO’s World Heritage list, classical language status for Assamese, and recognition of Bodo as an associate official language of Assam. He underlined that Bathou Dharma has received full respect, with Bathou Puja declared a state holiday, and recalled the installation of statues of Lachit Borphukan and Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma.

He stated that Assam and Bodoland are emerging as engines of growth, with youth playing a central role in peace, cultural revival, and development.
