NSO Launches ASISSE to Map Services Sector Data
The National Statistical Office has launched the first-ever Annual Survey of Incorporated Services Sector Enterprises (ASISSE), marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s statistical framework. The initiative aims to generate a robust and comprehensive database of the country’s incorporated services sector, which plays a vital role in economic growth and employment generation.
About ASISSE Initiative
The Annual Survey of Incorporated Services Sector Enterprises is conducted by the National Statistical Office under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. It seeks to provide detailed insights into the performance, structure, and dynamics of the incorporated services sector. By focusing on organised service enterprises, the survey fills a critical gap in India’s data ecosystem and supports informed policy formulation.
Coverage and Methodology
The survey targets corporate entities operating within the services sector, including companies registered under the Companies Act, 1956/2013 and Limited Liability Partnerships under the LLP Act, 2008. It will cover over 1.21 lakh enterprises, making it one of the largest surveys of its kind in India. Notably, the Goods and Services Tax Network database is used as the sampling frame, ensuring wide and reliable coverage of active enterprises.
Legal Framework and Implementation
The ASISSE is conducted under the provisions of the Collection of Statistics Act, 2008, as amended in 2017, along with the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2023. These legal provisions ensure compliance, data confidentiality, and systematic data collection. The initiative reflects the government’s emphasis on strengthening institutional mechanisms for high-quality statistical reporting.
