NSDL Launches Unified Digital Platform for Foreign Investors

The National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) has launched a new unified digital platform designed to streamline registration and compliance for foreign investors in India’s capital markets. The system integrates both Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI) and Foreign Venture Capital Investor (FVCI) processes into a single, simplified interface, enhancing ease of doing business for overseas investors.

Streamlined Investor Registration

The revamped FPI and FVCI portals, unveiled on November 7, 2025, aim to eliminate redundant logins and manual procedures. The initiative provides a cohesive, guided registration experience for international investors entering India’s securities markets. Dr Ruchi Chojer, Executive Director at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), officially launched the system during NSDL’s ninth Designated Depository Participants Conference in Mumbai. The event was attended by senior SEBI and NSDL officials, including Managing Director and CEO Vijay Chandok.

Integration and Automation Features

The digital platform integrates critical application stages, from PAN requests to regulatory submissions. Automated PAN processing through API integration with Protean and API Setu enables faster turnaround, cutting approval timelines from several days to one or two. The unified portal also allows application tracking, guided workflows, and provides a full audit trail, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the process.

Technological Backbone and Efficiency

Built using Angular, .NET Core, and SQL Server technologies, the new system offers improved user experience and faster load times of three to five seconds. The interface consolidates multiple compliance and monitoring systems, making it more efficient for foreign entities investing in Indian equities, bonds, and venture capital funds.
