NGT Chennai Hosts Regional Conference on Environment 2025

The Zonal Bench of the National Green Tribunal in Chennai is organising the Regional Conference on Environment 2025 on 6 and 7 December. The two-day event aims to strengthen institutional cooperation and advance a shared regional vision for environmental protection and sustainable development.

Inaugural Session and Key Dignitaries

The conference is being held under the leadership of the NGT Chairperson, Justice Prakash Shrivastava, with guidance from Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana and other Members of the Tribunal. Justice M.M. Sundresh of the Supreme Court is inaugurating the event as Chief Guest, joined by Justice Aravind Kumar as Special Guest and Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava as Guest of Honour. Senior representatives from the Government of Tamil Nadu are also participating.

Focus on Regional Environmental Challenges

The gathering brings together judicial officers, environmental specialists, administrators, academics and civil society organisations. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s message on responsible stewardship, the sessions will address urgent environmental issues confronting the southern region, emphasising sustainability, resilience and regulatory effectiveness.

Technical Sessions and Themes

Three dedicated technical sessions form the core of the conference. The first explores environmental law enforcement and biodiversity conservation under the chairmanship of Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque. The second examines the policy landscape of solid and biomedical waste management, chaired by Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy. The third focuses on challenges associated with coastal zone protection, led by Justice Suraj Govindaraj.
