Near Isothermal Forging Technology

The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) – a DRDO lab – has recently developed near isothermal forging technology capable of producing all five stages of high-pressure compressor (HPC) discs using 2000 MT isothermal forge press. This technology was transferred by DMRL to defence public sector undertaking MIDHANI through a licensing agreement for technology transfer.

This technology is made of complex titanium and nickel-based alloys that can withstand temperatures exceeding 1,000 degree Celsius. It will help India become self-reliant in the manufacturing of aeroengine technology. This breakthrough makes India one of the few countries capable of developing such critical aeroengine components.
