NCB Busts ‘Team Kalki’ Darknet Drug Trafficking Network

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has dismantled a major pan-India drug distribution network operating under the name “Team Kalki”. The network allegedly used darknet marketplaces and encrypted communication platforms to distribute narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances across the country. The operation was carried out in New Delhi after intelligence inputs were developed over the past three months, marking a significant crackdown on online drug trafficking in India.

Darknet-Based Drug Distribution Network

According to the NCB, the network had been active since January 2025 and relied heavily on darknet platforms for anonymous drug sales. The traffickers also used the encrypted messaging application Session to coordinate orders, payments, and deliveries. Such platforms allow users to conceal their identity and location, making them increasingly attractive tools for organised drug trafficking groups operating across borders.

Seizure of Parcels Linked to the Network

During the investigation, NCB officials intercepted several consignments connected to the network. Authorities seized narcotic substances from 13 domestically intercepted parcels and two international parcels originating from the Netherlands. Investigators believe the group used courier and postal services to distribute drugs discreetly across multiple cities in India.

Use of Cryptocurrency and Encrypted Communication

Officials also recovered several electronic devices from the accused individuals during the operation. Investigators identified a cryptocurrency wallet believed to be linked to the trafficking activities, indicating that digital currencies were used for financial transactions to avoid detection. The case highlights the growing trend of drug traffickers combining darknet marketplaces, encrypted messaging applications, and cryptocurrencies to operate covertly.

Large-Scale Distribution Suspected

Authorities are continuing forensic analysis of seized devices and financial records to identify additional members of the network and track further international connections. The operation underscores the increasing challenges law enforcement agencies face in combating cyber-enabled drug trafficking.
