NABARD and NaBFID Sign Pact for Rural Infrastructure

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Mumbai on 26 August 2026. The agreement covers infrastructure projects with rural linkages, Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects, and agricultural value chains.

NABARD and NaBFID

NABARD was established in 1982 under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Act, 1981. It is the apex development financial institution for agriculture and rural development in India. NaBFID was established in 2021 under the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development Act, 2021, as a development financial institution for infrastructure financing.

Areas Covered Under the MoU

The partnership includes financing for irrigation, water and sanitation, post-harvest storage, cold-chain facilities, terminal markets, rural roads, bridges, warehousing, and compressed biogas. These sectors are linked with agricultural logistics, rural connectivity, and farm-level value addition.

Operational Features of the Partnership

The two institutions will work on project identification, appraisal, credit structuring, debt syndication, joint monitoring, and capacity-building initiatives. The arrangement also covers commercially viable and bankable projects in food processing and storage.
