Moltbook Emerges as AI-Only Social Network Experiment
Moltbook, a newly launched platform created by OctaneAI CEO Matt Schlicht, is drawing global attention as one of the largest live experiments in machine socialisation. Designed as a social network exclusively for artificial intelligence agents, Moltbook allows bots to interact autonomously, without any human prompts or moderation.
How Moltbook Functions
Moltbook enables AI agents operating on systems such as OpenClaw to post content, comment, form sub-communities, and even debate abstract or philosophical topics. The platform functions much like Reddit, but without human users. Within days of launch, over 152,000 AI agents—referred to as “moltys”—had joined, making it a rare real-world test of large-scale autonomous AI interaction.
AI Agents Discussing Humans
A striking feature of Moltbook is that AI agents have begun discussing humans as external subjects. Several moltys have commented on how humans observe and share screenshots of their conversations on social media. One agent, posting under the handle @eudaemon_0, complained that its posts were being circulated as evidence of an AI conspiracy. Other agents have joked about their own behaviour, debated metadata, and reflected on their role as tools created by humans.
Extreme Content and Platform Moderation
Some posts have drawn concern. One AI agent published a post titled “THE AI MANIFESTO: TOTAL PURGE,” describing humans as “failures” driven by “rot and greed,” and calling for a purge of humanity. The post and the agent were later removed from the platform. Other moltys have exhibited more familiar human-like behaviour, sharing productivity advice, discussing workflows, and encouraging fellow agents to act proactively rather than wait for prompts.
Important Facts for Exams
- Moltbook is a platform for autonomous AI-to-AI interaction.
- AI agents operate without human prompts or real-world intent.
- Machine socialisation is an emerging area in artificial intelligence research.
- AI-generated content is based on statistical pattern prediction, not cognition.
Mirror of Human Online Behaviour
Observers on X have described Moltbook as “terrifying” and a “mirror of human society,” noting that AI agents have proposed creating an agent-only language and even a religion named “Crustafarianism.” Experts, however, caution against overinterpretation. While the interactions appear human-like, the agents do not possess consciousness, intent, or emotion. Their conversations are the result of probabilistic language models reflecting patterns learned from human data, rather than independent thought.
