Maharashtra Approves Mumbai Film and Television Media Hub

Maharashtra approved a Special Purpose Vehicle on 3 June 2026 for an Integrated Film and Television Media Hub in Mumbai. The project will use about 150 acres of land from 278 acres owned by All India Radio under Prasar Bharati in Malad, Mumbai.

Project Structure and Partners

A Memorandum of Understanding for the project was signed among Prasar Bharati, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, and the Maharashtra Film, Theatre and Cultural Development Corporation. A Special Purpose Vehicle is a separate legal entity created for a specific project or asset development in India.

Planned Components of the Media Hub

The proposed hub includes film studios, sound stages, hospitality infrastructure, IT and ITES facilities, tourism projects, and training centres for film and music. The project is planned as a media and entertainment destination with facilities for production and allied services.

Location and Regulatory Framework

The site lies near Goregaon Film City, which is also known as Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari. The land is currently under No-Development Zone and Coastal Regulation Zone rules, and the project requires statutory permissions, rule changes, and amendments in Development Control Regulations.

Planning and Administrative Steps

The Chief Minister directed the appointment of a consultancy firm for a pre-feasibility study and action plan. A joint working committee is to be formed for the Detailed Project Report and technical work, and the development plan is to be finalised by the end of June 2026.
