Mahantesh Bilagi, Senior IAS Officer Killed in Karnataka Accident

Senior Indian Administrative Service officer Mahantesh Bilagi died in a road accident in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district on Monday. The 51-year-old officer was travelling with two relatives when their vehicle met with a fatal crash near Gounahalli village.

Details of the Accident

Bilagi was on his way to attend a relative’s wedding when the incident occurred. His co-passengers, identified as Shankar Bilagi and Eranna Bilagi, also lost their lives in the accident. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Bilagi was taken to a private hospital in Kalaburagi, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Career and Administrative Roles

At the time of his death, Mahantesh Bilagi was serving as the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Minerals Corporation Limited. His administrative career included key roles such as the Managing Director of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM). He had earlier served as Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayats in multiple districts and also worked as a District Collector.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed grief over the officer’s demise, praising his integrity and efficiency. He noted that Bilagi had made significant contributions wherever he served. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar described him as a dedicated public servant known for impactful service initiatives, calling his death an irreplaceable loss to society.
