The Union environment ministry has approved ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel’s (AMNS) proposed greenfield steel plant at Nakkapalli in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district. The ₹1.5 lakh crore project marks India’s largest steel manufacturing investment, promising a major boost to industrial growth and employment in the region.

Once operational, the plant will act as an anchor industry for the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Corridor. According to state officials, all major approvals—including environmental clearance—were secured within just 14 months, reflecting Andhra Pradesh’s efficiency in project facilitation. The state government allotted land within three months and extended single-window support to ensure timely execution. Aditya Mittal, CEO of ArcelorMittal, lauded the state’s proactive approach and described the project as a hub for innovation and sustainability.
