INS Sindhughosh, the lead submarine of her class in service with the Indian Navy, was decommissioned after four decades of operational service, marking the end of a significant chapter in India’s conventional submarine force. The submarine was formally paid off under the command of Lieutenant Commander Rajat Sharma. Captain K R Ajrekar (retd), the second Commanding Officer of INS Sindhughosh, attended the ceremony as the guest of honour. The event was also witnessed by several senior naval veterans and officers, including former Chief of Naval Staff Admiral V S Shekhawat (retd), former commanding officers, members of the commissioning crew, and other distinguished guests.

Commissioned in the mid-1980s, INS Sindhughosh played a crucial role in strengthening India’s underwater warfare capabilities during a period of rapid modernisation of the submarine arm.
