India’s longest cantilever glass skywalk opens in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam has added a major tourism landmark with the opening of India’s longest cantilever glass skywalk at the Kailasagiri hilltop park. The new attraction, positioned at an elevation of about 862 feet, offers sweeping views of the coastline, surrounding hills and the Bay of Bengal.

Launch of the landmark structure

The VMRDA inaugurated the glass skywalk in the presence of local elected representatives and officials. The project, completed in roughly eight months, is designed as part of a broader plan to strengthen tourism infrastructure across the city. Authorities expect the bridge to become a central feature of Kailasagiri’s visitor circuit.

Key engineering and safety features

The skywalk uses toughened, high-strength glass capable of withstanding significant impact. Engineers have designed the structure to resist wind speeds up to 250 km/h, reflecting lessons from previous severe cyclones. Although the bridge can handle more than 100 people structurally, entry is capped at 40 visitors at a time to ensure safety and enhance the experience.

Visitor experience and design advantages

A detailed survey helped identify the ideal location on the hilltop for maximum panoramic effect. The cantilever design provides strong support while offering clear viewing angles of both the cityscape and the sea. Officials highlight that the attraction aims to deliver an immersive, thrill-based experience while maintaining high safety standards.
