The OTP-based verification system became operational on January 12 and currently covers 300 major trains across India. Under the new mechanism, tickets will not be issued unless the passenger’s identity is verified through an OTP sent to a registered mobile number. Passengers booking tickets at railway counters are now required to provide a valid mobile number. An OTP is generated by the system and sent instantly to that number.
