India-UK Launch Connectivity And Innovation Centre to Boost 6G and Digital Ties

The India-UK Connectivity and Innovation Centre was launched recently to boost bilateral cooperation in digital technology and telecommunications. This initiative aims to enhance secure communications and digital inclusion between the two countries. It marks step in shaping the future of connectivity, particularly during the critical development phase of 6G technology.

Strategic Focus Areas

The Centre will concentrate on three key areas. First, it will transform telecom networks using artificial intelligence to optimise performance and enable new digital services. Second, it will develop Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) such as satellite and airborne systems to provide reliable connectivity in rural and remote regions. Third, it will enhance telecom cybersecurity by creating open and secure communication systems to protect networks from threats.

Funding And Collaboration

India and the UK have committed £24 million (around ₹250 crore) over four years to support this project. The funds will facilitate applied research through partnerships between universities and industries. Joint testbeds will be established to trial new technologies. The Centre will also participate in setting global standards for emerging telecom technologies.

Role In India–UK 2035 Vision

This initiative is a flagship project under the UK-India Research and Innovation Corridor. It aligns with the shared goals of the India–UK 2035 Vision, which aims to deepen technological cooperation. The Centre is jointly managed by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the UK-India Technology Security Initiative.

Innovation Ecosystem Integration

By linking research institutions and industries from both countries, the Centre will encourage innovation ecosystems. This collaboration is expected to create new commercial opportunities and improve cyber resilience. It will help build secure and inclusive digital economies in India and the UK, supporting long-term technological growth and security.
