India Sends 4.5 Tonnes Medical Aid to Kenya

India delivered 4.5 tonnes of medical assistance to Kenya on 22 July 2026 for Ebola preparedness and response to other infectious diseases. The first consignment was handed over at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi by Indian High Commissioner Adarsh Swaika to Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale.

Ebola Virus Disease

Ebola virus disease is a severe viral haemorrhagic fever caused by viruses of the genus Ebolavirus. It spreads through direct contact with blood, body fluids, contaminated objects, and infected animals, and it requires strict infection prevention and control measures in health facilities.

Medical Assistance Consignment

The shipment contained 279 packages of medical supplies. The consignment included Personal Protective Equipment kits, sample transportation kits, infrared thermometers, face shields, and heavy-duty protective boots. These items are used in disease surveillance, safe sample handling, and frontline worker protection.

Kenya’s Preparedness Measures

Kenya has activated a nationwide Ebola preparedness plan covering surveillance, laboratory testing, case management, border screening, and emergency response coordination. No Ebola cases had been confirmed in Kenya as of early June 2026.
