India Hosts BIMSTEC Young Professionals Exchange Programme

India hosted the BIMSTEC Young Professionals Exchange Programme in Maharashtra from 9 to 15 March 2026 to strengthen regional cooperation and knowledge sharing among emerging leaders of the Bay of Bengal region. The initiative was organised to provide exposure to India’s rapidly growing innovation, start-up, research and technology ecosystems. It also aimed to promote collaboration among young innovators and professionals from BIMSTEC member countries.

Participation from BIMSTEC member countries

The programme brought together 30 young innovators, technology developers, entrepreneurs and professionals from across the BIMSTEC region. Participants engaged in discussions, workshops and interactions designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences. The initiative sought to create a platform where young professionals could learn from each other and explore opportunities for future cooperation in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Exposure to India’s innovation ecosystem

During the programme, participants were introduced to India’s growing start-up and technology ecosystem. The exchange allowed them to understand how innovation, research and entrepreneurship are being integrated into India’s development model. The programme also highlighted the role of knowledge institutions, start-up hubs and research centres in driving technological progress and economic growth.

Interaction with Maharashtra leadership

The participants called on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during the visit. He highlighted the state’s strong ecosystem in knowledge, technology and innovation, and emphasised its potential as a hub for international partnerships and collaboration. Maharashtra’s thriving start-up culture and industrial infrastructure were presented as opportunities for joint initiatives with BIMSTEC countries.
