India, Greece Sign Pact to Boost Defence Industry Ties

India and Greece have taken a significant step to deepen their strategic partnership by signing a joint declaration of intent aimed at strengthening defence industrial collaboration. The move reflects growing convergence between the two countries on security, maritime cooperation, and indigenous defence production.

Joint Declaration and Five-Year Roadmap

The declaration was signed following bilateral talks between India’s defence minister “Rajnath Singh” and Greece’s minister of national defence “Nikolaos Georgios Dendias” at the “Manekshaw Centre”. The agreement serves as a starting point for developing a structured five-year roadmap to expand defence industrial cooperation, with emphasis on long-term partnership rather than isolated projects.

Linking Aatmanirbhar Bharat With Agenda 2030

Both sides agreed to enhance the capacities of their indigenous defence industries by aligning India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative with Greece’s defence modernisation reforms under ‘Agenda 2030’. The focus will be on joint development, production partnerships, and industry-to-industry collaboration, enabling mutual benefits for defence manufacturers and technology ecosystems in both countries.

Military Cooperation Plan and Maritime Convergence

A Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2026 was also exchanged, outlining the framework for military engagements between the armed forces of the two nations. The ministers underlined strong convergence on maritime security, reflecting their shared heritage as ancient seafaring nations and common interests in maintaining stability across vital sea lanes.
