India Achieves Record 357 Million Tonnes of Foodgrain Production

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India has achieved a historic milestone by producing 357 million tonnes of foodgrains in 2025. Speaking during the 128th episode of “Mann Ki Baat”, he noted that this marks a 100-million-tonne increase over the past decade, reflecting the country’s progress toward agricultural self-reliance and strengthened food security.

PM Modi highlighted his participation in the Natural Farming Exhibition and the South India Natural Farming Summit held in Coimbatore. He praised the growing interest among youth, including highly trained professionals, in natural farming techniques rooted in India’s traditional knowledge systems. The event brought together farmers, experts and innovators working to promote chemical-free agriculture.

Highlights from the Coimbatore Summit

Organised from November 19–21, 2025, the South India Natural Farming Summit aimed to accelerate the transition to sustainable and regenerative farming models. The exhibition showcased organic inputs, indigenous technologies, agro-processing solutions and eco-friendly packaging. The Prime Minister interacted with farmers, inspected displays of crop varieties and reviewed demonstrations on plant growth and soil health.

Policy Support and Farmer Welfare

The Prime Minister referred to the release of the 21st instalment of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, which provides crucial income support to farmers. He stated that government efforts continue to prioritise climate-smart agriculture, enhanced productivity and greater access to markets. Strengthening farmer-producer organisations and rural entrepreneurs formed a core theme of the Coimbatore events.
