IIT Guwahati Partners with Coventry University for AI Healthcare Research

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Coventry University Group (CUG), United Kingdom, to strengthen global research collaboration in artificial intelligence and healthcare. The agreement aims to promote academic mobility, joint research initiatives and collaborative degree programmes. The partnership marks an important step in expanding Indo-UK cooperation in emerging technology sectors, particularly the application of AI in modern healthcare systems.

Strategic Collaboration Between IIT-G and CUG

The MoU establishes a long-term strategic partnership between the two institutions. It focuses on expanding collaborative research and innovation while fostering stronger academic engagement between India and the United Kingdom. Officials from Coventry University Group, led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research Prof. Richard Dashwood, recently visited IIT Guwahati to formalise the agreement and explore areas of joint academic development.

Focus on Academic Mobility and Research Exchange

A key component of the agreement is academic and research mobility. The collaboration will enable short-term exchanges of faculty members and students between the two institutions. Such exchanges are expected to facilitate knowledge sharing, exposure to advanced research infrastructure and interdisciplinary collaboration in fields related to technology and healthcare innovation.

Joint Doctoral and AI-Driven Healthcare Programmes

The partnership will also introduce joint doctoral programmes, including a dual-award PhD structure under a joint supervision framework. This model will allow scholars to work with supervisors from both institutions while benefiting from combined academic resources. Another important pillar of the collaboration is “AI for One Health”, which aligns with India’s National AI Mission and aims to utilise artificial intelligence to improve healthcare, disease surveillance and public health systems.
