Guntur to Host National SARAS Mela 2026

Guntur is set to host a major national event with the organisation of the National-level SARAS Mela 2026, marking a first-of-its-kind milestone for the district. Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, , announced that the prestigious fair will be held from 6 January to 18 January 2026, bringing nationwide attention to rural livelihoods and women-led enterprises.

National Platform for Women Self-Help Groups

SARAS Mela is a flagship initiative aimed at the economic empowerment of women through sustainable livelihoods. The 13-day event will bring together around 300 women artisans and entrepreneurs from 21 States and Union Territories. Women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs), including DWCRA groups from Andhra Pradesh, will gain national-level exposure, market access, and insights into modern product standards and marketing practices.

Inauguration and Significance for Andhra Pradesh

The exhibition will be formally inaugurated at 4:00 PM on 8 January 2026 by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, in the presence of the Union Minister of State. Hosting a National SARAS event for the first time, Guntur district will play a key role in showcasing a flagship rural livelihoods initiative, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to women-led development and entrepreneurship.

Craft, Cuisine, and Cultural Diversity on Display

The Mela will showcase India’s diverse artisanal heritage through authentic handmade products such as bamboo crafts, traditional jewellery, handicrafts, home décor items, and eco-friendly jute products. Handloom highlights include renowned weaves like Pochampally and Gadwal. A dedicated All-India SHG Food Court will offer regional delicacies including Rayalaseema cuisine, Madugula Halwa, Bheemili Thandra, and Atreyapuram Pootharekulu.

Capacity Building, Security, and Event Arrangements

Beyond exhibitions, SARAS–2026 will include structured capacity-building and training sessions on key livelihood themes, led by expert resource persons. A dedicated Lakhapati Didi Pavilion will highlight success stories of women entrepreneurs from various districts. Cultural and entertainment programmes, including inter-State and district-level performances, will be held every evening. Comprehensive security arrangements include 24×7 surveillance with over 100 CCTV cameras. Participating SHG members will receive free accommodation, food, and transport. Organised by Guntur Zilla Samakhya with DRDA and SERP, the event will be held at the Open Ground opposite Reddy College, Adarsha Nagar, Guntur, with free entry for all visitors.
