GRSE Delivers Fifth Warship to Navy in 2025

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has delivered its fifth warship to the Indian Navy this year, reinforcing India’s indigenous shipbuilding capacity and maritime preparedness. The latest delivery underlines the shipyard’s sustained production momentum and its central role in strengthening national defence capabilities.

Anjadip Added to Navy’s Fleet

The Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) “Anjadip”, the third vessel in a planned series of eight, was handed over to the Navy at Chennai Port. Designed and built indigenously by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, “Anjadip” is the 115th warship constructed by the shipyard and the 77th delivered to the Indian Navy. The vessel was formally accepted by the Eastern Naval Command.

Rare Delivery Milestone in a Single Year

Before “Anjadip”, GRSE had already delivered four warships in 2025 — the Advanced Guided Missile Frigate “Himgiri”, ASW SWCs “Arnala” and “Androth”, and the Survey Vessel (Large) “Ikshak”. All four have been commissioned into active naval service. Delivering five complex naval platforms in a single year is considered a rare achievement among Indian shipyards and reflects improved project management and industrial capacity.

Focus on Atmanirbharta and Capabilities

The ASW SWCs demonstrate India’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing. “Anjadip” is fitted with an indigenous 30 mm Naval Surface Gun manufactured by GRSE and has nearly 88 per cent indigenous content. The class is designed for coastal sub-surface surveillance, search and attack missions, and coordinated anti-submarine operations with aircraft. These vessels are equipped with combat management systems, lightweight torpedoes, and anti-submarine warfare rockets.

Ongoing Projects and Future Outlook

GRSE is currently building 12 more warships, including two Project 17A advanced stealth frigates, five additional ASW SWCs, a Survey Vessel (Large), and four Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels. Beyond naval platforms, the shipyard is also executing international and civilian orders, highlighting its expanding footprint. The company expects to conclude a contract for five next-generation corvettes this financial year, further consolidating its position as a key pillar of India’s maritime defence ecosystem.
