    Since its first publication here, the headline and the relevant part of the text of this report have been modified, reflecting the fact that Justice Sathasivam is not the first Chief Justice of India from Tamil Nadu. That distinction goes to M. Patanjali Sastri, the second CJI, who served from November 7, 1951 to January 3, 1954.
