Filmmaker M M Baig Found Dead at Home
Veteran Hindi filmmaker M. M. Baig was found dead at his residence earlier this week. He was in his seventies and had reportedly been unwell for some time. The news was confirmed by his publicist, Hanif Zaveri, who stated that neighbours alerted the police after noticing a foul smell and his prolonged absence from public view.
Discovery at Residence and Police Action
According to information shared by Zaveri, Baig had not stepped out of his home for four to five days. Concerned neighbours informed local authorities after detecting an unusual odour from the house. Police officials forced entry and discovered his body inside the residence.
His daughter was informed immediately. The body was later taken to Cooper Hospital in Mumbai for post-mortem examination during the early hours of the morning. No immediate signs of foul play were reported, though authorities are following standard procedures.
Career in Mainstream Hindi Cinema
M. M. Baig began his journey in the film industry as an assistant director. He worked with noted filmmakers such as J. Om Prakash, Vimal Kumar and Rakesh Roshan. Over the years, he contributed to several mainstream Hindi films including Aadmi Khilona Hai, Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharnii, Karz Chukana Hai, Kala Bazaar and Kishen Kanhaiya.
He later directed projects such as Massom Gawah, featuring Naseeruddin Shah, though the film did not receive a theatrical release. He also helmed Chhoti Bahu starring Shilpa Shirodkar. Colleagues remembered him as a disciplined professional with strong industry relationships.
Mentor to Hrithik Roshan
Baig shared a close professional association with filmmaker Rakesh Roshan. He is said to have mentored Hrithik Roshan before his acting debut, guiding him in diction, voice modulation and dialogue delivery. This mentoring reportedly took place prior to the release of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, which marked Hrithik’s entry into Bollywood.
