Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS)

ECHS scheme is a dedicated and comprehensive scheme of launched in 2003 for medicare of retired personnel of Armed Forces.

  • Under this scheme, ex-servicemen pensioners and their dependants who were only entitled for treatment in service hospital are now authorised treatment, not only in service hospitals, but also in those civil/private hospitals empanelled with the ECHS. The scheme is financed via budgetary support by Government of India.
  • ECHS is a contributory scheme. On retirement, every service personnel will compulsorily become member of ECHS by making a onetime contribution.

The scheme provides medicare to Ex-servicemen by establishing new polyclinics at various Military and Non Military stations in the country. This also includes provisions for capital expenditure on procurement of necessary assets/infrastructure for the ECHS Organisation including purchase of land, construction of buildings and purchase of medical equipment.
