October 31: Ekta Diwas

Every year on October 31, India celebrates the National Unity Day or Ekta Diwas. This year the celebrations of the day are to be held in Kevadia, Guajrat. PM Modi is to participate in the celebrations.

Key Highlights

This year Ekta Diwas is to be celebrated to commemorate 145th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The central reserve armed forces, police forces of Gujarat state, Central industrial security forces, Indo Tibetan Border Police Force and National Security Guard are to participate in the parade. A cultural show of tribal heritage is to be organised during the celebrations. The Indian Air Force will perform a fly past.

The prime minister will administer the Rashtriya Ekta pledge during the event. He will then address 428 civil servants currently undergoing 95th foundation course at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussorie. The officers or to attend the function through video conference as a culmination of Aarambh 2020.

The Prime Minister will also launch the seaplane service on the sidelines of Ekta Diwas celebrations. The service will connect the Statue of Unity in kevadiya and Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad.

Tourism

The Government of India recently constructed the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Narmada river. Following this crew services and seaplane services were launched to improve tourism in the region.

Ekta Cruise service

A Ferry Boat service between Statue of Unity and Shreshtha Bharat Bhavan was launched. It is a 40 minute ride and the fairy can carry 200 passengers at a time.

World’s first Technology driven nutrition park for children

Near the Statue of Unity the world’s first ever Technology driven nutrition for children was constructed. The park raises nutritional awareness through entertainment activities.

Aarambh

The Aarambh initiative was launched to bring the probationary officers of All India service and Foreign Service together under the common foundation course. It aims to break the syllabus of departments and services in the career of the Civil Servant.

About Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister of India. He also served as home minister. The 562 princely states of India united together to form Union of India under his initiative.
