Coimbatore to Host Two-Day Defence Conclave

Coimbatore is set to host a two-day defence conclave at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex on November 13 and 14, bringing together industry leaders, defence stakeholders, and policymakers. Organised by the Codissia Defence Innovation and Atal Incubation Centre (CDIIC), the event aims to boost indigenous defence manufacturing and innovation in alignment with India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.

MSMEs at the Forefront of Defence Manufacturing

More than 40 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will showcase a range of defence-related products and technologies during the conclave. Coimbatore district, home to over 100 MSMEs catering to the defence sector, has become a growing hub for advanced engineering and precision manufacturing. Exhibits will include ground support equipment, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) developed locally.

Focus on Policy and Industry Readiness

Codissia president M Karthikeyan stated that the conclave will facilitate discussions on defence procurement, indigenisation, policy frameworks, and quality standards. A series of expert-led panels and sessions will explore strategies to enhance industry readiness and promote greater collaboration between MSMEs, startups, and defence organisations. The event is expected to serve as a catalyst for regional participation in India’s expanding defence ecosystem.

Showcasing Local Innovation and Capability

CDIIC CEO Vinodh Kumar highlighted that Coimbatore-based firms are already contributing to major national projects. Four local companies are manufacturing ground support equipment for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s Advanced Light Combat Helicopters. Additionally, a Coimbatore enterprise has indigenously developed an attack UAV now under test trials with the Indian Air Force, while another has supplied operational drones to the IAF.
