CISF Launches Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) organised the second edition of the Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026 today, marking a major national outreach initiative focused on coastal security and patriotism. The 25-day cyclothon was virtually flagged off from New Delhi by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. The event is part of the nationwide commemoration of 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, which will continue until the 22nd of next month.

Theme and National Significance

The theme for this year’s cyclothon is “Surakshit Tat, Samridh Bharat”, underscoring the link between secure coastlines and national prosperity. Addressing the occasion, the Minister highlighted that the initiative seeks to celebrate patriotism and strengthen national consciousness during the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram”. The cyclothon is designed as a public engagement exercise to reinforce unity and awareness among coastal populations.

Role of CISF in Coastal and Maritime Security

Mr Rai praised the CISF for its contribution to internal security during challenging times. He noted that the CISF has been designated as a recognised security force under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, reflecting its growing role in maritime security. The force also plays a crucial part in port-led development, safeguarding maritime trade, and strengthening coastal infrastructure across the country.

Route, Participation, and Outreach

Two CISF cycling teams will simultaneously commence their journey from Bakhali in West Bengal on the eastern coast and Lakhpat Fort in Gujarat on the western coast. The teams will traverse approximately 6,500 kilometres before culminating at Cochin in Kerala. A total of 148 CISF personnel, including 65 women, are participating, highlighting inclusivity and gender representation within the force.
