Centre Approves ₹10,021 Crore Under PMAY-G
The Central Government approved a mother sanction of ₹10,021.42 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) on 28 May 2026. The allocation is the first instalment for the financial year 2026-27 under the rural housing scheme, which has a target linked to Housing for All by March 2029.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin
PMAY-G is a rural housing scheme implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development. The scheme provides financial assistance for the construction of pucca houses in rural areas for eligible households, including landless poor families in several states.
Funding and Coverage
The ₹10,021.42 crore sanction covers 12 states: Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. An additional ₹11,121 crore had already been sanctioned earlier for the financial year 2026-27.
Targets and Progress
PMAY-G has an overall target of 4.95 crore rural houses. Approvals have been granted for 3.91 crore houses, and more than 3.05 crore houses had been completed by May 2026. The housing target for 2026-27 is three times higher than the target for the previous year.
Implementation Measures
States were asked to provide land for landless poor families, resolve grievances, complete pending approvals, and use the released funds within the prescribed time. States lagging in approvals for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 targets were instructed to complete the process by 30 June 2026.
