CBSE to make board exams compulsory for Class X from 2018

The Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to make Class X Board exams mandatory from the academic session 2017-18. The CBSE governing body has also agreed to extend the three language formula till Class X while treating foreign language as fourth and elective. Accordingly, three languages Hindi, English and Indian language (listed in schedule VIII of the Constitution) should be extended to class IX and X as well from the current VI to VIII.
As of now, CBSE students have the option to appear either in the Board exam or a school-based examination. The CBSE conducts the final examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 every year in the month of March and also declares the results.
