Brazilian President Lula To Visit India For AI Summit

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will undertake a state visit to India from February 18 to 22 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit, his sixth to India, reflects deepening strategic ties between the two democracies amid growing cooperation in global governance, technology and South-South engagement.

India and Brazil have maintained a strategic partnership since 2006, anchored in shared democratic values and coordinated positions on major international issues.

Participation in AI Impact Summit

A key highlight of the visit will be President Lula’s participation in the second edition of the AI Impact Summit scheduled for February 19-20. His presence underscores the importance both nations attach to emerging technologies, digital public infrastructure and inclusive growth.

Artificial intelligence, innovation ecosystems and technology-driven development are expected to feature prominently in discussions, signalling closer collaboration in high-technology sectors.

Modi-Lula Bilateral Talks

A bilateral summit between Prime Minister Modi and President Lula is scheduled for February 21. The two leaders will review the entire spectrum of India-Brazil relations, including trade, defence, energy, agriculture, health, science and technology.

Global issues such as reform of multilateral institutions, climate change, counter-terrorism and cooperation within multilateral fora will also be discussed. Prime Minister Modi is expected to host a luncheon in honour of the visiting leader.

High-Level Engagement and Economic Focus

President Lula is also expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a state banquet. Senior leaders, including the Vice President and External Affairs Minister, are slated to call on him.

Around 14 Brazilian ministers and a large business delegation will accompany the President. Ministerial meetings and a dedicated business forum will focus on boosting trade, investment and industrial partnerships. Brazil is India’s largest trading partner in the Latin America and Caribbean region, with untapped potential in renewable energy, defence manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and critical minerals.
