Bihar Govt to Launch ‘Bhumi Sudhar Samvad’ for Faster Land Dispute Resolution

The Bihar government has announced a new initiative aimed at accelerating the settlement of land disputes and improving transparency in land administration. The programme, titled ‘Bhumi Sudhar Samvad’, will begin on 12 December and offer citizens a platform to resolve documentation and ownership issues promptly.

Objective of the New Programme

The initiative creates a public interface where individuals can present their land-related documents for on-the-spot resolution. Sessions will initially be held in Patna and later in Lakhisarai, providing direct engagement with officials to address long-pending mutation, ownership and documentation concerns.

Addressing Fraud and Administrative Lapses

A specialised monitoring team, ‘Udan Dasta’, will be constituted to detect and prevent land-related frauds. The department has already received around 46 lakh applications so far, resolving nearly 12 lakh. Officials have been instructed to process mutation applications in a time-bound manner and avoid unjustified rejections.

Measures to Curb Encroachment and Corruption

The government plans to launch a targeted drive in March to remove encroachments from state-owned land. Strict action is promised against individuals involved in illegal occupation as well as staff found colluding with land mafias. Informants providing credible information on encroachments will receive rewards.
